MAESTAS -- Epifania "Fannie" Gloria Maestas, born to Julian and Julianita Cordova in Los Pinos, NM, on December 6, 1913, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2008 surrounded by her loving family. Fannie was a pioneer of the Modern Women and an example for women of our generation and many more to come. She was a 94 year old women who had a college degree, worked full time, raised her eight children and was a wonderful wife. She was a teacher for more than 40 years teaching three generations. All the while enjoying life to the fullest, traveling Europe, Mexico and taking many vacations, cruises, camping trips, always enjoying the company of her husband and family. She had an amazing faith and love of God, praying the rosary always. She was known for style, grace and beauty, her unique smile, her simple kiss on the cheek and her simple presence is unforgettable. Her marriage was a true love story that inspired many couples as they led their Wedding Marchas. The song you may remember her singing was "The more we get together the happier we'll be". So we will have one last get together to honor her. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Juan Maestas; and son-in-law, Ernie Aguilar. Fannie is survived by her loving children, Julia McClain and husband, John, Ramon Maestas and wife, Hemie, Juan Maestas and wife, Tillie, Viola Garcia and husband, Ross, Porfie Maestas and wife, Pat, Mary Kay Aguilar, Frank Maestas and wife, Linda, Donald Maestas and wife, Barbara; honorary daughter and caregiver, Elva Marquez; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are six Cordova brothers and their spouses; one Cordova sister; six Maestas brothers and their spouses; six Maestas sisters and their spouses; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving relatives and friends. Fannie will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. Visitations will be Friday from 12:00 p.m. till 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services-Alameda Mortuary. A Rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Bernalillo, NM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, John McClain, Ivan Williams, Carlos Maestas, Marvin Garcia, Jason White, Ernie Aguilar Jr., Frank Maestas Jr., and Jack Maestas.
