CARTER -- Richard Dale "Dick" Carter, 74, died early Saturday morning from complications brought on by frontotemporal dementia. Born in Corsica, SD, Dick was raised in Fowler Indiana. The youngest of five children, Dick went on to join the Navy in 1951. Upon his discharge, he attended DeVry Institute which started him on his career in Aerospace. The mid-50's found Dick in Japan working for Bendix Field Engineering, a company he would stay with until the mid-80's. During that time, he worked on projects across the United States that were classified in nature, as well as more public achievement such as the early unmanned probes to Mars and the inner solar system. Upon his retirement in 1990, Dick settled back to enjoy life in his adopted state of New Mexico. Dick is survived by Sally, his wife; and two sons; Richard Jr. "CJ", and David. A Rosary will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior at French Mortuary, Wyoming Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd NE. A Funeral Liturgy will be held Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at French Mortuary Wyoming Chapel. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of gifts, the family requests that donations be made to the Presbyterian Hospice Homecare, PO Box 26666, Albuquerque, NM 87125, where Dick found much comfort in his final weeks.
