DENNIS -- DOROTHY MAY NEES The youngest of eleven children born to Rev. Lawrence Gifford Nees and Emma Myrtle Nees in Richland County, MT, on May 1, 1924, Dorothy "Dorrie" May Nees Dennis, a long-time Roswell resident, passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 2007, in Albuquerque, NM. She was 83 years old. After being raised in Poplar and Kalispell, MT, at nineteen, the summer before she began her studies at Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, ID, she worked as "Rosie the Riveter" in Tacoma, WA. Following graduation, she moved to Roswell in 1945 where she married W. Glenn Dennis; they divorced in 1956. Blessed with a splendid singing voice and life-long passion for music, she performed in Roswell theater productions and in many other venues. In Roswell, she worked in real estate and the oil and gas industries as an executive assistant; in 1972, to be near her sister LaVerne Klein, she moved to Dallas, where she worked for John Beall, her nephew, in his accounting practice. In 1990, she retired and moved to be near her eldest daughter in Columbus, OH where she began a business, "Dorrie's Desert Desserts," an enterprise which took full advantage of her skill at making candy. In 1995, she returned to Roswell and then moved in 2001 to be closer to her youngest daughter in Albuquerque. Until the end, she retained an interest in world events, languages, and geography. A world map was seldom beyond her reach. Preceded in death by her infant daughter, Patricia Ann Dennis, she is survived by her daughters and their families: Nancy K. Dennis and her partner, Tieg Veinot, of Albuquerque, NM; Pamela J. Abbott and her husband, Lee K. Abbott, of Upper Arlington, OH, and Lincoln, NM; her grandsons and their families: Noel Lee-Kittredge Abbott and his wife, Sara Jane Vernon Abbott, and their children, Mia Sierra Abbott and Maxwell L-K Abbott, of Evanston, IL; Kelly Glenn Abbott and his wife, Stephanie Cunningham Abbott, of San Diego, CA. Extended family included Roger and Siri Cooper, and their daughter, Cassandra Glenn Cooper, of Roswell, NM. A Service to honor and celebrate Dorrie's life will be held at La Iglesia de San Juan-Bautista church in Lincoln, NM, on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow in the dining room of the Wortley Hotel in Lincoln. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dorothy Dennis Memorial Fund of Mama's Kitchen, a charity that makes and delivers three meals a day to those with AIDS and their care-givers, at 1875 Second Avenue, San Diego, California, 92101. Because of Dorrie's affection for animals and her many grand pups and kitties, contributions may also be made to the Animal Humane Association of New Mexico at 615 Virginia Street, SE, in Albuquerque, NM, 87108.
