GOFF -- K. Charles Goff, 82, a resident of Albuquerque since 1986, died Wednesday, July 25, 2007. Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Alice; daughter, Deborah Benninghoff, her husband, Robert; grandson, Michael of Albuquerque; sister-in-law, Patricia Beaton; nephew, Gary Beaton; and niece, Nicola Straw and husband, James and their four children, all of Great Britain. He was preceded in death by his son, James Leon Goff in 1978. Charlie was born September 26, 1924 to Dana and Beryl Goff in New Sharon, Maine. His mother was a school teacher and his dad was an engineer helping to build the Panama Canal. At age 19, Charlie enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country for three years. His military service took him to France and Germany during WWII. After being wounded (for which he received the Purple Heart), he was assigned to drive on the Red Ball Express delivering gas and ammunition to the front lines. After completing his military service he was offered a commission but preferred to become a Department of Defense civilian in Europe. After meeting his future wife overseas, he decided to stay in Europe to get married and continue working for the Department of Defense, first in the transportation field and later in financial management. His career took him to Germany, England, France and back to Germany. Charlie finally returned to the United States in 1986 to work for the Army Corps of Engineers before retiring in 1987. A Memorial celebration is scheduled for Wednesday, August 1, 2007, 11:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. His final resting will take place at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe. In lieu of flowers, and because Charlie believed in supporting local charities such as Roadrunner Food Bank and The Animal Humane Association, donations to such a cause or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
