WALKER -- Dorothy Jean (Anderson) Walker, a 77 year Albuquerque resident, passed from this world on to the next after a long fulfilling life on June 7, 2007 with her loving daughter,Julie by her side, and is now flying free with the Angels. Her parents, George Key Anderson and Vila Jacqueline (Larson) Anderson; sister, Dolly; son, Jason; and Dale Walker preceded her in death. She leaves behind to honor and celebrate her life: daughter, Julie; sons, Kit and wife, Deborah Field, Cody; sister, Joan Cornell; and many other family members and friends who made her life rich. She was born on March 22, 1927 in Abilene, Texas and moved to Albuquerque at the age of three. She attended Monte Vista Elementary, Jefferson Junior High, Albuquerque High School, and received her Bachelor's and Master's from the University of New Mexico. She was on Mortar Board and was a 61-year member of Chi Omega Sorority. She married Dale B. Walker on September 10, 1953 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The focus of her life was raising four very active and inquisitive children, exposing them to the Arts and Sciences and the great outdoors. She was the Founding President of the Assistance League of Albuquerque serving from 1959-60 and spent countless hours getting Bargain Box Thrift store and the Blue Portal gallery in Old Town off the ground. She volunteered at The Albuquerque Museum gift shop at the old Albuquerque Sunport and worked as a counselor at the Bernalillo County Mental Health Center. She was a past President of The New Mexico Bead Society and had a passion for Fine Art, Native American Art, jewelry, beads, and life-long friends. Dorothy was raised in the Church where everybody volunteered to help those less fortunate. Throughout her life she volunteered her time to various charities and organizations, especially those involved with serving Senior Citizens. The Senior Citizen Community of Albuquerque was truly blessed to have her in their city. Dorothy was a master bridge player, playing with various clubs and groups around town and at her home. She also looked forward to her monthly poker game with "The Girls." Dorothy opened her heart and her home early on in her children's lives to all of their friends, always having time to listen and to help in anyway she could. Many of her children's friends, after starting families of their own would still call or come by to say Hello, catch up on life, and bring their children to meet her. A celebration of her life will be held later this summer. Dorothy's family would like to Thank Stacey and Tony of Ambercare Hospice for being Mom's Angels. Death is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room. Nothing has happened. Everything remains exactly as it was. I am I, and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged. Whatever we were to each other, that we are still. Call me by the old familiar name. Speak of me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference in your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is absolute and unbroken continuity. What is this death but a negligible accident? Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well. Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as before. How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!
