CHAVEZ -- CHARLES CHAVEZ May 31, 1925 - November 27, 2006 Dad, We knew little that morning; that God was going to call your name. In life we loved you dearly; in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you; you did not go alone. For part of us went with you, the day God called you home. You left us peaceful memories; your love is still our guide And though we cannot see you, you are always at our side. Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same; but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again. Happy Father's Day Daddy we miss you so much! Love, Sweetie, Dimples, Claudia, Anna, Barbara, Chuck, Dianne, Dominic, Leroy and of course the love of your life "Ma".

MCDOWELL -- Bill McDowell, on Saturday, June 9, 2007, the world lost one of the last cowboys, a man who did business on a handshake that one could "take to the bank," a man who served as a mentor to many in New Mexico and Colorado, a man of charisma, class, compassion and love. Bill, known to many by the sole name, "Cowboy," was a man we were proud and honored to call husband, father, grandpa Po-Po, father-in-law, brother, uncle, business colleague and friend. Born here in Albuquerque, he started his lifelong career as an electrician young in life. He worked for a number of construction and electrical contractors in New Mexico, Colorado and California, and served as a trainer and mentor to hundreds of young electricians coming up in the industry. One of his proudest accomplishments was his two sons, Wayne and Scott, whom he had with former wife and dear friend, Patti O'Brien. He married Marsha 19 years ago and together, with their bare hands, built a beautiful, loving home that housed them and Marsha's mother, daughter and grandchildren, whose eyes lit up with joy whenever he was near or when they could hear his big truck coming up the driveway alerting them that he was home at last. Bill was known for his seemingly leather-tough exterior that softened into the teddy bear we knew and loved when family and friends were near. His colleagues knew him as a man of his word, respected in the business community for his hard work and ability to conquer any challenge. His family and friends knew him as a funny, loving man who always spoke his mind, but never to a point to hurt anyone's feelings. His father instilled in him a love of the outdoors - it wasn't about the kill, he always said. It was about the hunt, the time together, the campfires and the fun times. The guys at Charlie's Sporting Goods always knew when Bill was coming - he would buy every gadget in the store to catch that elusive fish. In the end, it was always everyone else with him that got the big catch of the day. He would pretend to be mad - but we know he just loved spending the time with family and friends out on the water or in the mountains. His stories and jokes, which sometimes took days to complete, will help us in these difficult times to remember those who came before us, and to serve as words to live by - to be honest, strong and to never take anything too seriously. Those of us who had the distinct honor of having him bless our lives understand that his physical being may no longer be with us, but that we can feel his life force - his spirit - holding us close and guiding us to continue living the way he did, with dignity, grace and a sense of humor. Bill, as your family and friends, we commit in your name that we will live strong, use your life as an example of how to live well, and ask you to be our guardian angel as we try to go on without you. Bill is survived by his wife, his partner in life and best friend, Marsha McDowell; his sons, Wayne O'Brien and wife, Celia, Scott O'Brien and fiancee, Wende; daughter, Kimberly Anderson; grandchildren, Cody James McDowell and Mariah Anderson; Brandan and Brittny O'Brien; Shane, Montana, Seth and River O'Brien; sister, Kathleen Armstrong and husband, Joseph; and many other family and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Dorothy McDowell; brothers, Guy and David McDowell; and sister, Mary Lou McDowell. Bill's stories of his family will allow us to have many fond memories of days on the Corrales apple farm, traveling by truck with his mom and dad, brothers, and sisters to San Francisco with a flaming mattress - the last yarn he weaved with us here on Earth - and many more stories of love and strength. We invite friends and family to join in a celebration of Bill's life on Monday, June 18, 2007, at 11:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. For those of you too far away, the family invites you to share your precious memories of Bill with us at www.frenchmortuary.com and know that you are also in our thoughts and prayers. MCDOWELL -- ROBERT (Bob) McDOWELL October 2, 1957 - June 7, 2007 The greatest measure of a man is marked by the way he touched the lives of others, and the love he takes on his journey to live again with Christ our Savior. They say an angel receives its wings when it rains on the day of a viewing or a funeral. Bob received his wings on Monday, he took flight when the Bosun's whistle blew Tuesday. We will always remember the compassion, kind words, thoughtfulness, and the many ways all of you provided for our needs. Bob would feel as we do, eternally grateful. Bob loved life and played hard; we all know how much he enjoyed every indoor/outdoor sport. Ask Bob to go with you to have fun or tell him when you return how much you enjoyed yourself. If you pass through Santa Fe, be sure to let him know how good the powder was! A Bob McDowell Memorial Childrens' Education Fund has been established for his children. WALKER -- Dorothy Jean (Anderson) Walker, a 77 year Albuquerque resident, passed from this world on to the next after a long fulfilling life on June 7, 2007 with her loving daughter,Julie by her side, and is now flying free with the Angels. Her parents, George Key Anderson and Vila Jacqueline (Larson) Anderson; sister, Dolly; son, Jason; and Dale Walker preceded her in death. She leaves behind to honor and celebrate her life: daughter, Julie; sons, Kit and wife, Deborah Field, Cody; sister, Joan Cornell; and many other family members and friends who made her life rich. She was born on March 22, 1927 in Abilene, Texas and moved to Albuquerque at the age of three. She attended Monte Vista Elementary, Jefferson Junior High, Albuquerque High School, and received her Bachelor's and Master's from the University of New Mexico. She was on Mortar Board and was a 61-year member of Chi Omega Sorority. She married Dale B. Walker on September 10, 1953 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The focus of her life was raising four very active and inquisitive children, exposing them to the Arts and Sciences and the great outdoors. She was the Founding President of the Assistance League of Albuquerque serving from 1959-60 and spent countless hours getting Bargain Box Thrift store and the Blue Portal gallery in Old Town off the ground. She volunteered at The Albuquerque Museum gift shop at the old Albuquerque Sunport and worked as a counselor at the Bernalillo County Mental Health Center. She was a past President of The New Mexico Bead Society and had a passion for Fine Art, Native American Art, jewelry, beads, and life-long friends. Dorothy was raised in the Church where everybody volunteered to help those less fortunate. Throughout her life she volunteered her time to various charities and organizations, especially those involved with serving Senior Citizens. The Senior Citizen Community of Albuquerque was truly blessed to have her in their city. Dorothy was a master bridge player, playing with various clubs and groups around town and at her home. She also looked forward to her monthly poker game with "The Girls." Dorothy opened her heart and her home early on in her children's lives to all of their friends, always having time to listen and to help in anyway she could. Many of her children's friends, after starting families of their own would still call or come by to say Hello, catch up on life, and bring their children to meet her. A celebration of her life will be held later this summer. Dorothy's family would like to Thank Stacey and Tony of Ambercare Hospice for being Mom's Angels. Death is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room. Nothing has happened. Everything remains exactly as it was. I am I, and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged. Whatever we were to each other, that we are still. Call me by the old familiar name. Speak of me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference in your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is absolute and unbroken continuity. What is this death but a negligible accident? Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well. Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as before. How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!
