O'MALLEY -- Michael J. O'Malley, 58, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away after a long illness on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2007. Michael is survived by his mother, Christine O'Malley; sister and brother-in-law, Caryn and Ted Barre, their sons, Ryan and Sean; brothers and sisters-in-law, Marty and Linda, their sons, Colin and Derek; John and Karen, their son, Kenny; Brian and Michaela, their son, Shane and daughter, Erin, all of Albuquerque; cousins and many dear friends. Michael was preceded in death by his father, James E. O'Malley. Michael was born in Chicago, IL on March 16, 1949. Growing up as the son of an Army Lt. Col., he had the opportunity to live in Europe and the Far East. Like his father, he was a talented singer, performing with many bands during his college years. Michael loved children, especially at Christmas when he became Santa Claus in full costume for his niece and nephews. He worked closely with children during his early employment years as Athletic Director of Queen of Heaven Grammar School and later with the Albuquerque Parks and Recreation Department. After attending the University of New Mexico, he joined the United States Navy during the Viet Nam era where he served as a communications technician with a top secret clearance. Michael then returned home and served with the Albuquerque Police Department as an officer. Subsequently, he pursued a very successful thirty-year banking career, where he attained the position of Senior Vice President at New Mexico Federal Savings and Loan, Bank of America and finally Peoples Bank. Michael touched the lives of both family and friends, and especially his mother, Christine, with his love, kindness and selflessness. He will be greatly missed and will be honored at a celebration of life service Tuesday, April 17, 2007, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 18, 2007, 10:00 a.m., at John XXIII Catholic Community, 4831 Tramway Ridge Drive NE, with Reverend Arkad Biczak, Celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Marty O'Malley, John O'Malley, Brian O'Malley, Ted Barre, Colin O'Malley, Major Derek O'Malley, Ryan Barre, Sean Barre, Kenny O'Malley, and Shane O'Malley.
