ANDREWS -- Dan Z. Andrews, 99, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2007 after a short illness. Born in Moville, IA, Dan grew up on a 160-acre livestock and wheat farm, which his Irish Grandfather homesteaded. Dan attended Morningside College in Sioux City, IA. In 1932, he married Julia Spolar. They moved to New Mexico in 1935 and later settled in Albuquerque. While raising a family, he worked primarily in retail sales, men's clothing and shoes. He retired at the age of 72. Dan was a devout Catholic and attended Queen of Heaven Church. Dan was known as a star ballroom dancer in the Albuquerque area. He was a member of the Solo Club in Albuquerque. Until recently, he danced and played bridge weekly. His great sense of humor drew people around him. He loved to share stories about his life and adventures. Because of Dan's integrity, wisdom and kindness, he was a role model for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His wife, Julia Spolar-Andrews preceded Dan in death. His children, Dolores Bernard and husband, Bob Bernard, Dominican Sister Kathleen Andrews, Denver, CO, and Marilyn Adams and husband, Ralph Adams survive him. Dan had six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. A viewing and visitation for Dan will be held on Monday April 2, 2007 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday April 3, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. in Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
