ANAYA -- Francisco M. (Pancho) Anaya, 50, of Albuquerque, died on Saturday March 24, 2007 at the University of New Mexico Hospital of complications from liver disease, while awaiting a liver transplant, with family members by his side. Pancho Anaya is the son of Lowrie Hurtado of Albuquerque and the late Joe Anaya of Douglas, AZ. He was born on December 23, 1956. Pancho is survived by his two children, Francis (Franci) Anaya and Alejandro (Alex) Anaya. He is also survived by his mother, Lowrie Hurtado of Albuquerque; and several siblings and their children: Jody Nagel of Brownsville, TX and her two sons, Preston and Pancho; Cass Anaya of Brookfield, CT and his two sons, Joseph and Nicholas; Mia Gutierrez Anaya of Albuquerque and her son, Chris Maes; Mike Percilick of Marcola, OR and his daughter, Natasha, and son, Talon. Pancho enjoyed his life and was very much a sports enthusiast. In addition to the passion he felt for his children, he had a love of basketball, baseball, golf, and all outdoor activities. As a graduate of Manzano High School in Albuquerque, he was a significant contributor and leader on two state-championship and three district championship basketball teams. His family, friends, teammates, and coaches will not forget the sight of a young, fearless, sophomore entering the game in the final minute of the 1973 finals against Albuquerque High. Manzano was down by two and with the seconds counting down, Pancho intercepted a pass between the wheels, streaked down the court, layed the ball softly off the glass and sent the game into overtime. As a result, Manzano High School won their first state championship that night, and repeated the following year. Pancho, also continued his basketball after high school and attended Eastern New Mexico University on a full basketball scholarship and received his degree in business. Utilizing his business and personable skills, Pancho pursued his professional career in sales in Albuquerque. For Pancho, this has always been a special time of year, and that night on the basketball floor of the Pit was much more than a game. It was the growth of a person who lived his life with passion, courage, and leadership, and touched and influenced so many people. We are all fortunate to have had Pancho be a special part of our lives and his legacy will carry forward. In lieu of flowers, arrangements are being made for a fund for Pancho's two children. Details will follow. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 7, 2007, 11:00 a.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. French Mortuary 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE 275-3500

FAXON -- Robert M. Faxon, Jr., 62, of Albuquerque, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2007 after an extra inning bout with brain cancer. Fax, as he was affectionately known, was an accomplished photographer, birder, backgammon opponent, and archeologist. He was a huge fan of the Boston Red Sox, and was ecstatic when they won the World Series in 2004. "YES!!!!," the headline from the Boston Globe screamed in an email he sent to all of his life-long friends, who knew what coming back from an 0-3 deficit to the Yankees, then sweeping the Cardinals, meant to the native Bostonian. Fax graduated from Milton Academy in 1963 and Harvard College in 1967. He was an accomplished athlete. He played hockey at Milton, and rowed crew at Harvard. He was a VISTA volunteer in California and on the Navajo Nation in 1969 -1971. He taught at Rock Point Community School from 1972-1974, where he met Judie and made a host of life-long friends. 1976 was big. Fax earned a Master's in Elementary Education at UNM, married Judie, and returned to the Navajo Nation to teach for three years at Borrego Pass School. There, he and Judie made more life-long friends. Bob and Judie moved to Albuquerque in 1980. Fax toiled at UNM in a teacher education program for Pueblo students, at the Albuquerque public schools in an early childhood intervention program, in a study on mental health issues facing rural youth in New Mexico, and also completed research for the Public Service Company of New Mexico and Sandia National Laboratories. He returned to UNM in 1991, earned an M.A. in Training and Learning Technologies, and next served as a trainer at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. Then Fax cut loose. He worked for himself. He and Judie hiked in Hawaii, bicycled in Bali, and biked and hiked all over the western U.S. Bob was a frequent competitor in the Iron Horse Classic bike race from Durango to Silverton, Colorado. Fax was pursuing graduate studies in Mesoamerican Art and Archeology at UNM, and had completed field studies in Copan, Honduras, when he was struck by cancer in 2005. He would have had great hopes for the upcoming baseball campaign, complained about the move of Papelbon from the starting rotation to the bullpen, and anticipated the return of the Rocket to Fenway before the All-Star break. And yes, Fax loved cats. He was devoted to Tommy, Knu Knu, Macarthur, Whitney, and Livingston. He is survived by his wife of thirty years, Judith Diehl-Faxon; sisters, Rebecca Knowles and Sarah Houlihan, both of Naples, FL; and nephew and niece, Christopher and Holly Sawtelle and their children, Egerton Sawtelle and Madeline Coughlin. He also leaves a brother-in-law, Michael L. Diehl of Edgewater, FL, and family. His parents and sister, Elizabeth Faxon, preceded him in death. A Memorial Service, in celebration of his life, will be held at the Rio Rancho Presbyterian Church at 1004 24th SE, Rio Rancho, NM, on April 2, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. A reception will follow in the church social hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The UNM Cancer Center, Development Office, MSC 08-4630, 1 University of NM, Albuquerque, NM 87131. Please indicate the donation is for research. LOWE -- John E. Lowe (Ted) of Albuquerque passed away Friday, March 23, 2007 John was born in 1933 in Weiser, ID to John (Jack) and Frances. John was the youngest of six children, five of which were sisters. He is survived by one sister; three sons and their mother; and had seven grandkids. John served his county in the Korean War and came back and went to college on the GI Bill. He graduated from the University of New Mexico in June 1961 with a Degree in Civil Engineering and eventually went on to become a successful custom home builder. The University honored him later for his financial contributions to the Civil Engineering department. He left his mark on the Albuquerque skyline in 1965 by being the construction superintendent on the original Federal Building on Gold Avenue which at that time was the tallest building downtown. John had a love for life and was fortunate enough to travel quite a bit. He enjoyed time in Idaho in the summer and New Mexico in the winter which he claimed was "the best of both worlds". He loved the outdoors and taught his boys that same love by taking them skiing, hiking and camping. A legacy of appreciation and love for the Idaho Mountains, Rivers and Lakes has been passed on to all his offspring. John also had a love for archeology, when his kids were younger; they remember him taking them all over the Southwest, viewing a multitude of Native American sites and ruins. He had appreciation for the Native Americans though his work associations and his explorations. He enjoyed collecting Native American rugs and pottery. Those of you that knew John will know that he enjoyed the time he had on the earth, and most of you will remember that gleam in his eye that he would get when discussing or remembering something he was passionate about. He died in no pain and is in a better place. No services will be held, his family intends to take his remains to Idaho, which is what John wanted
