SUITS -- Gordon Suits of Rio Rancho passed away on January 18, 2007. He was born February 10, 1918 in Jayton, TX to Arlie and Dollie Suits. He grew up in the Texas panhandle and graduated from Baylor University with a music degree. In 1938 he went to Dallas where he was an entertainer and singer on WFAA radio's the "Early Bird Show". A redhead, he was nicknamed "The Red Robin", and that along with the song became his trademark. He joined the Army in 1941 and in 1942 married Joan Thatcher of Plainview, TX. He served overseas as a 1st Lieutenant in the 100th Gen. Hospital unit. After the war he resumed his entertainment career, moved to Amarillo and worked for KGNC radio and television for many years. He received his Master's of education degree in 1960 and was choral director at Caprock High School in Amarillo until his retirement in 1981. Gordon loved traveling with his wife Joan and enjoyed many hobbies. During the last 11 years, his love of teaching compelled him to become a mentor for adult literacy. He was especially proud of his student, Marten Griego, whom he inspired to write a book, "Leaving the House of Tears". Gordon's mission was to make a positive difference in someone's life. He did for many through his music, teaching, humor and love of life. He will be greatly missed. He leaves his wife, Joan; daughter, Susan Dodge and husband, Steve; grandson, Brian Dodge and wife, Domi; and granddaughter, Melissa Dodge. Memorial Services will be held on Friday, January 26, 2007, 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust NE, Albuquerque, NM.
