BURRESS -- John W. Burress, age 74, a resident of Albuquerque since 1958, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2007. He was born October 17, 1932 in Wortham, TX and married Constance F. "Connie" Hardesty in Albuquerque on June 6, 1959. After his discharge from the U.S. Air Force in 1955, John earned his Bachelor's Degree in Geology. In 1958 he worked while attending Graduate School at UNM. John was involved in the oil and gas business until 1963. He then accepted a position with Mountain Bell here in Albuquerque, where he was involved in selling Yellow Page Advertising. John was a natural in this area, and was soon promoted to Sales Manager and relocated to Phoenix. His career with Mountain Bell finally took him to Denver where he was involved in various staff and management positions. In 1980, John jumped at the opportunity to come home to Albuquerque as an Office Manager with Mountain Bell. He retired from Mountain Bell in 1988 after 25 rewarding years. John was engaged in the real estate business and was a former member of the Albuquerque Board of Realtors. In his spare time, John enjoyed woodworking, outdoor sports, recreation and trap shooting. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Connie; daughter, Holly Marquez and her husband, Derek of Littleton, CO; three grandchildren, Sydney, Austin and Dillon Marquez; his oldest childhood friend and nanny, Dorothy Nagai of San Marcos, TX; and several beloved nieces and nephews. Mr. Burress was preceded in death by his son, Cliff in 1983; three brothers, Robert, William, and Julius Burress. Memorial Services will be held Friday, January 26, 2007, 2:00 p.m., at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel located at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. For those who desire, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice.
