MACK -- Christopher W. Mack, born March 24, 1983 in Austin, TX, was tragically killed Friday, December 15, 2006. Christopher was a very mild mannered, loving, kind-hearted and compassionate individual who was suffering from a torturous mental illness following the death of his beloved brother, Patrick, four and a half years ago. It is ironic that the circumstances stated in media reports surrounding his death were contrary to his peaceful and gentle nature. We are thankful that the media was able to speak with his family in order to convey the truth regarding his fragility, grief, and some of the struggles he had been dealing with since the loss of his brother. In middle and high school years, he was a decorated athlete, he participated twice in the Southwest Junior Olympics in both track and field. He graduated from Manzano High School in 2001. He was working in facilities maintenance for a properties management company here in Albuquerque. All who knew Chris loved him and were taken by his sweet and giving nature and humbleness. He was very dedicated to music and was in the process of learning guitar and bass guitar. He is survived by his parents, Jack and Patti Scherer; step-brothers, Chris Scherer and Brian Scherer and wife Kari; grandparents Oliver P. Frei and wife Cathy; grandmother; Mary Mack of St. Louis, MO; step grandmother, Jean Scherer of Navajo Dam, NM; and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother Patrick Mack; grandmother, Kathryn Exter-Frei; great grandmother, Mary T. Frei. Friends may visit French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel on Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Services will be on Thursday, December 21, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family would like to thank Elmer Majean, Lee Honeycutt, Frank Lane, and Gayle Doty for all their loving support over the last few years.
