HAGINS -- Willie C. "Big Bill" Hagins, 54, devoted, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to so many, died suddenly on Friday, June 2, 2006. Bill played Center for the University of NM Lobos from 1974-1976 under coaches Norm Ellenberger, Dennis Hodges and John Whisnet. He loved and lived the game of basketball as well as being an avid fan of all sports. Bill was a fisherman who enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He dedicated much of his life to working with troubled youth as a counselor at the Bernalillo County Juvenile Detention Center. He inspired and reached the minds and hearts of many in his 23 year career. After retirement, Bill continued touching the lives of young people in his work at Eldorado High School. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Dorothy; three children, Cecil Hagins and fiance, Regina, of Albuquerque, Nakia Hagins of Albuquerque and Conrad Jackson and fiance Beth, of Los Angeles, CA; grandmother, Edna Baldwin; sisters, Patricia Hagins of New York City, Paulette Hagins, and Doreleain Haggins of New Jersey, and Bea Williams, of New York City; brother, Marvin Hagins of New Jersey. He is the grandfather of three, Syeid, Dominique and Jade. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Phyllis Childress of Arizona, Pat Pallone of California, Jim Pallone and Fran Toensing from Albuquerque and too many aunts, uncles and cousins to name. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth, and father, Ulysses Hagins and brother, Marshall. Bill had a way of making all who entered his world feel very special with words and actions of genuine kindness. A big man with an even bigger heart. Bill will be missed by all who had the good fortune to have known and loved him. Services will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Friends may visit French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel on Wednesday, June 7, 2006, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. French Mortuary, Inc. 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE (505) 823-9400.
