Rob served his country with distinction during WWII in the US Navy as Chief Sonarman aboard the destroyer USS The Sullivans in the South Pacific Theater, earning six medals, some with as many as nine stars. He also earned two Purple Hearts, which he declined to accept in order to save his mother from knowing that he had been wounded during combat. Rob attended Oklahoma A&M Tech in Okmulgie, OK where he studied the chemistry of baking. He had many businesses over the years, beginning with the ownership of a small retail bakery in Tulsa, OK. He moved his family to Albuquerque in 1962 when he was named President and General Manager of Rainbo Baking Company, Inc. He retired from Rainbo in 1979 to pursue other interests. He was part owner and Managing Director of the Board of Crego Block Co., Inc. and a long-time member and past President of the Executive Association of Greater Albuquerque. Together with his son, he formed Living Benefits, Inc., a company that received international attention for developing a way for the terminally ill to use of the proceeds of their individual life insurance during their remaining lifetime. Living Benefits, Inc. revolutionized the life insurance industry and was the very first company in what has become known as the Viatical Settlements Industry. Rob loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, playing his fiddle and painting beautiful landscapes. He and Joanna enjoyed retreating to their summer home on the Conejos Rover in the mountains of Colorado. It was there that Rob taught each of his grandchildren to fish, and instilled in them a great appreciation for nature and the outdoors. Rob was a devout follower of Christ and was one of the founders of Fellowship Bible Church in Albuquerque, giving of both his time and resources not only to his church, but to many other organizations involved in advancing the work and Word of Jesus Christ. He was a loving, caring and generous man with a tremendous work ethic, whose accomplishments belie his humble beginnings, yet who received his greatest earthly joy from the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.
