SIMON -- Lt. Col. John A. Simon (USAF Ret) died Sunday, October 30, 2005 in Grand Rapids, MI. He was 82 and a veteran pilot of WWII and the Korean conflict. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps as an aviation cadet in 1940 at the age of 17 after receiving flight training in the Royal Canadian Air Force, and retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1968. He made his home in Albuquerque and Belen from 1966 to 1996 after his retirement at Kirtland AFB. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 52 years, Doris J. Simon and is survived by his second wife, Florence Simon of Grand Rapids, MI; his sons, Michael Simon of Laguna Beach, CA, Jeffrey Simon of Herndon, VA; his daughters, Ellen Ross and her husband, Gary Ross of Austin, TX, Mary Keeling of Albuquerque, and Susan Simon of Fort Defiance, AZ. His grandchildren include Leslie Ross and Gary Ross, Jr. of Austin, TX, Stacey Jonas-Keeling and Benjamin Jonas-Keeling of San Diego, CA, CW3 Robert Gibbs of El Paso, TX, Natasha Simon of Laguna Beach, CA, and Michelle Simon, Mary Simon, and Kristin Simon of Springfield, VA. His great-grandchildren include Charles Gibbs and Alicia Gibbs of El Paso, TX, and Alexis Ross, Olivia Ross, and Gary Ross, III of Austin, TX; and, locally, his step-daughter, Karen Van Tuinen and Diane Barttles of Albuquerque. Memorial Services will be held November 7, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetary. In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made to BH Humane Society, PO Box 137, Sanders, AZ 86512.
