CHRISTENSON -- Irvin (Irv) A. Christenson, Jr., of Albuquerque, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 5, 2005 at the age of 67. Irv passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was born on June 12, 1938 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Irv and Kay Christenson. He grew up in Moorhead, Minnesota and graduated with honors from Concordia College in Moorhead. After earning his Master's degree at Iowa State University (Math and Physics), he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to teach at Nevada Southern University (UNLV), where he met his wife, Janet. The Christensons moved to Albuquerque in 1967. Irv started working at Albuquerque TVI as a part-time math teacher and moved into administration. When he retired in 2000, he was an Assistant Director at Albuquerque TVI Montoya Campus. He was active in the Albuquerque Scandinavian Club and the Republican Party. He also continually served the Church in various capacities. His greatest joy was to be with his family, particularly his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, son, father and brother and a devout Christian. Irv was known for his honesty and compassion. He was greatly loved and will be missed. Mourning his passing are wife of 39 years, Janet; his mother, Kay of Moorhead, MN; daughters, Anne Christenson of Arlington, VA, and Julie Norris and husband Jerome of Albuquerque; son, Theodore Christenson and fiancee Katrina Garcia of Albuquerque; two grandchildren, Joshua and Mikayla Norris; sisters Jean Brown and husband Lynn, of Niantic, CT and Gerry Altringer and husband Paul of Maple Lake, MN; as well as numerous other relatives and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church on Saturday, October 15 at 1:00 p.m., 211 Jefferson NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108. A reception will follow at the church. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to St. Timothy's Lutheran Church, 211 Jefferson NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108 or to The American Cancer Society (1-800-227-2345) for lung cancer research.
