ROBERTS -- Melvin Ray Roberts, 62, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2005 after his seven year battle against cancer. He was born in Springfield, MO on January 17, 1943 to John M. and Helen M. Roberts. He has been a resident of Albuquerque for most of his life where he graduated from Sandia High School in 1961. Melvin and his wife, Mary Ann were married on June 30, 1967 in Albuquerque. He loved being with his family and many friends that he made throughout the years and spending time at his business. His interest and activities included volunteering at Roadrunner Little League, officiating high school and youth baseball and football, being an officer and member of the Elks Lodge, and assisting at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church. He served in the Vietnam War for the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1965 at which time he transferred to the Naval Reserves. He was employed by Chevron USA for 25 years and became a business owner in 1993. Melvin will be remembered by his family and friends as a loving and devoted family man and will be cherished for his valiant spirit, love of life and selfless courage in the face of adversity. He sets an example for all. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mary Ann; children, Damian and wife, Lillian and Darin; grandchildren, Lawrence, Tanner and Spencer; parents, John and Helen Roberts; brothers, Garry and Roger; and numerous loving sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He will never be forgotten. Rosary will be recited Wednesday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. Mass will be celebrated Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 2610 Utah NE. Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Friends may visit French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, Wednesday, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. French Mortuary 1111 University Blvd. NE 843-6333
