BENTON CASHION -- Elizabeth "Betty" Mary Benton Cashion, 80, a native and long-term resident of Albuquerque, died on Friday afternoon, September 30, 2005 after a long battle with congestive heart problems. Betty was born on March 23, 1925 to Alice and James Thomas Benton. She married John Cashion on August 14 1967, in Albuquerque. She grew up in the city graduated from Albuquerque High in 1943 and attended the University of New Mexico. Betty was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, the UNM Ski Team and she acquired a Bachelor of Arts in Inter-American Affairs, in 1947. After graduating she worked as a translator for the United Nations and then spent a year in Europe, working for the Service Civil Internationale (forerunner of the Peace Corp). Her true passion was snow skiing, which she learned at the age of 13 and competed in many racing events, becoming the New Mexico Women's Downhill Champion in 1945. In 1948, while working in Beartown, MA Betty became the first woman Certified in as a Ski Instructor in the Eastern Division of the Professional Ski Instructors of America. She returned to Albuquerque in 1949 as the head of the La Madera (now Sandia Peak) ski school for 2 years. She left Albuquerque for 9 years, teaching skiing on the East coast for several years and also lived in London, England for a year. Betty returned to Albuquerque for good in 1960 and taught skiing at La Madera (Sandia Peak) every year since, until she retired from skiing in 2003 at the age of 78. She had many other interests during her lifetime, enjoying tennis, bike riding, traveling, teaching school, a good party, her fruit trees and the tulips in Holland, all while running a properties business involving warehouses and rentals. She is survived by her husband, John; her two sons, Randall (wife Kim) of Arvada, CO and Chris (wife Debbie) of Highlands Ranch, CO; step-daughter, Leda (husband Larry) of Cuba, NM; and her brother, Bruce of Albuquerque. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Eric, Kyle, Megan, Tiffany, Sheri, Teri, Malina, and Becky; and three great-grandchildren, Eli, Kenneth, and Dylan; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and loving friends. CATGENOVA -- Charlotte Gerrie Catgenova, 80, born in Omaha, NE on December 30, 1924, passed away on September 30, 2005. Charlotte is survived by her husband of forty-four years, George, of the family home; son, Mario; step-children, Nick Catgenova and Deborah Coleman; sister, Barbara Christianson of Alberta, Canada; sister-in-law, Margaret Radinse; brothers, Robert Hudson and wife, Carol of Veneta, OR and Martin Hudson of Eugene, OR; grandchildren, Heather Catgenova, Hana Catgenova, Christina Catgenova, and Brandon Coleman; and friend, Linda Hillman. DAVIS -- Alice Ruth Fitzpatrick Davis November 8, 1917 - September 30, 2005 Alice "Ruth" Fitzpatrick Davis, age 87, formally of Clovis, NM, died Friday, September 30, 2005 at Kaseman Presbyterian Hospice in Albuquerque. She was born November 8, 1917 to John and Grace Quigley Fitzpatrick in Saint Marys, KS. She was later adopted by William and Mary O'Neal Fitzpatrick. She married Cecil Davis Sept. 2, 1939 in Amarillo, TX. She was a homemaker, and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was currently living in Albuquerque, NM. She is survived by her husband, Cecil Davis of the home; four sons, Bill and wife, Debbie Davis of Las Vegas, NV, Cecil Jr. "Bud" and wife, Michelle Davis of Los Angeles, CA, Joe and wife, Carylon Davis of Clovis, NM, and John and wife, Maureen Davis of Bull Head City, AZ; daughter, Mary Nation of Albuquerque, NM; 17 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Anna Marie Curry. Rosary will be held Wednesday, October 5, 2005 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. FEERY -- FRANK JOSEPH. Mr. Frank Joseph Feery, aged 90, of Albuquerque, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2005 at his home. He was born October 7, 1914 in Hartford, CT to Francis J. and Edith M. (Johnson) Feery. He married Viola M. Scheri on October 13, 1940 in Chicago, IL. Mr. and Mrs. Feery have made Albuquerque their residence since 1947, moving from Rhode Island. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Navy with Naval duties in Pearl Harbor and Guadalcanal. He was a former electrical engineer with Sandia Labs retiring in 1972 after 25 years of service. Following retirement he enjoyed hunting, fishing and being with his family. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Viola M. Feery of Albuquerque; two daughters, Janette Denton of Modesto, CA and Joyce Roberson of Albuquerque; four sons: J. Patrick and his wife, Cindy Feery, James Andrew Feery, Jerome W., his fiance, Donna Chavez, and Michael E. and his wife, Christi Feery, all of Albuquerque; fifteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Francis Joseph Feery in February of 1967; also two sisters; and two brothers. GALLAHER -- Ethel L. (Wilson) Gallaher, 100, went to be with her Lord on September 23, 2005. She was born a simple farm girl in Woodbine, MD. The majority of her life was spent in Albuquerque, NM and Tampa, FL. Ethel was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Wilson; her second husband, Charles Gallaher; and oldest son, LTC Walter Wilson, Jr. She is survived by sons, Vernon Wilson and wife, Georgia of Baltimore, MD; Wayne Wilson and wife, Jan of Tampa, FL; Francie Rawlins of Albuquerque, NM; and 23 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Over the past eight years she resided at John Knox Village in Tampa, FL. Ethel often remarked that John Knox Village was one of the greatest periods in her life. She was a member of the Grounds Committee and the Rhythm Band. She had a small rose garden and served as a volunteer at JKV. As a devout Catholic, she was a Eucharistic minister, giving communion to those unable to attend mass in the chapel. Once you met her you would never forget her. Ethel had lived in Tampa 17 years prior to moving to Albuquerque. During that time she worked as a secretary while helping her first husband through the University of Tampa. In Albuquerque, she was referred to by a newspaper columnist as "Hurricane Ethel" because of her exuberant personality and zest for life. She worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Albuquerque until she was 73 years old. She was never one to hold back her feelings and opinions but always with good intentions and for the betterment of others. She recently celebrated her 100th birthday with a party attended by over 250 people. A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, October 5, 2005, 7:00 p.m. at Chapel of Sunrise, 7601 Wyoming Blvd NE, Albuquerque. GARCIA -- LENA. Mrs. Lena Garcia, 80, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on October 3, 2005. Mrs. Garcia is survived by her son, Manuel Jaramillo and wife, Josie; sisters, Charlotte Serna, Stella Sandoval and husband, Benny, Virgie Narvaez and husband, Skip, Ruby Martinez and husband, Johnny, Bea Baca and husband, Alex, Rosemary Montoya and husband, Tony; brothers, Gilbert Griego and wife, Mary, Augustin Griego and wife JoAnn; granddaughter, Julie Jaramillo; grandson, Thomas Jaramillo Sr. and wife, Patty; great-granddaughter, Sofia Jaramillo; and great-grandson, Thomas Jaramillo Jr.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. HAMILTON -- Wilber Lee Hamilton, 65, born on February 14, 1940 in Coleman, TX, passed away September 21, 2005 in Abilene, TX. He was the son of the late W. R. and Ida Hamilton of Coleman. Lee joined the United States Air Force when he was seventeen yeas old. Lee had a distinguished career in the U.S. Air Force and served in the Vietnam War. While there he flew in the Air Rescue Service, recovering downed pilots and crew members from hostile environments. On several missions his aircraft came under severe hostile fire and by his actions the aircraft and crew were saved. For these actions and many others he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, The Bronze Star, The Meritorious Service Medal, The Air Medal (with five oak leaf clusters), The Air Force Commendation Medal, and many other military awards and decorations. After retiring from the U.S. Air Force after 23 years of service, Lee returned to Coleman and worked for the U.S. Postal Service. He was married to Judy Young on May 22, 1985 and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Coleman. He is survived by his wife, Judy Hamilton; six daughters, Leisha Hamilton of Gatesville, TX, Treisha Tomer of Los Lunas, NM, Crystal Norrell, Sharon Papayik, and Sherry Bragee, of St. Louis, MO, and Heather Hamilton of Coleman, TX; five sons, Christopher Lee Hamilton, who preceded him in death in 2001, Chad C. Hamilton, John Reed, Earl Reed, all of Albuquerque, NM, and Ed Ellis of LaMirada, CA; three brothers, W. R. Hamilton of Waco, TX, Guy Hamilton of Houston, TX, and James Hamilton of Lincoln, NE. Lee is survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Lee had a full military funeral and interment has taken place in the Coleman Cemetery in Coleman, TX.

HANSON -- Robert John Hanson. Last Remaining Member of "Memphis Belle" Robert J. Hanson passed away Saturday, October 1, 2005 at Arbor Brook Nursing Home in Albuquerque, NM at the age of 85. Bob was the last surviving member of the famous "Memphis Belle" B-17 airplane, which was the first bomber in World War II to complete 25 missions over Germany and to return safely. Because of the heroic efforts of the members of the Memphis Belle, Bob was awarded numerous medals, including medals presented by the Queen of England for his military efforts. In 1977 Bob and Irene Hanson returned to England as consultants to the 2nd making of the movie, "The Memphis Belle." Bob was born in Helena MT on Tuesday, May 25, 1920. He grew up in Garfield, WA and was one of four children born to Art and Blanche Hanson. His uncle, Ford McDaniel, his mother's brother, raised him. He was an outstanding athlete and received a baseball scholarship to Washington State University, but was unable to play baseball because he was drafted into the Army Air Corps. He served four years in the service and left with the rank of First Lieutenant. Upon returning from World War II, Bob joined Nalley's Fine Foods where he progressed from a salesman to a regional sales manager, responsible for several states in the Northwest. Two of Bob's greatest areas of enjoyment in his later years were golfing with Irene and their friends and square dancing. Bob is survived by his wife, Irene Hanson of Albuquerque; brother, Harold Hanson and wife, Ruby of Los Angeles, CA; sister, Ann Blatt and husband, Bill, of Arlington WA; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Dee Dee Hanson and their son, Bo, of Spokane WA; their daughter and son-in-law, Sunny and Jason Shirley of Las Vegas, NV; his daughter, Mary Black and her husband, James of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Michelle Black; grandson, Jason Black and wife, Liza, of Albuquerque; two granddaughters, Tina and Terry Walker from Pasco, WA and many nieces and nephews. HENDRICKSON -- James Robert, "Jim Bob" Hendrickson, 65, passed away at home early on October 1, 2005. Jim Bob was born on December 6, 1939 in Hobbs, NM to LaHoma and Bobby Hendrickson. His childhood was spent in Oil Center, NM where his father was a pioneer in the oil and gas industry. After graduating from Texas Western University in El Paso with a degree in Biology, Jim Bob went on to teach Science and coach football in El Paso. He was a Claims Manager for Employer's Casualty of Texas for 17 years before establishing Tucumcari Tire Company. Jim Bob owned and operated Tucumcari Tire for 28 years. Jim Bob served as a Quay County Commissioner from 1992 to 1996. Some of the accomplishments for which he was the most proud during his work as a Commissioner were the County Health Department building and the County Fire Houses. Jim Bob will be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor, heart of gold, and love for life. He was fair, kind, and compassionate, which was evidenced by the many lives he touched. Jim Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Charlotta Robertson; and his childhood friend, Dallan Sanders. Survivors include his loving wife, Nola; his children, Todd Hendrickson, son, Brett and wife, Samra Hendrickson, all of Albuquerque; his son, Clint and wife, Christine Dougherty of Tucumcari; daughter, Whitney Reid of Phoenix; three grandchildren; his sister, Kay and husband, Bob Lord of Eunice, NM; his sister, Betty and husband, Roy Lacy of San Angelo, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim Bob was immensely proud of all of his children and their accomplishments. He loved them dearly and in return they respected and loved him. Jim Bob will be greatly missed and forever cherished by his family and friends. As per his wishes, the body of James Robert Hendrickson will be cremated. JERNIGAN -- Alyce Kouri Jernigan, age 92, beloved wife, mother, siti, sister, and neighbor, died October 2, 2005. Her husband, Maxie Osmond Jernigan, preceded her in death by 29 years. Mrs. Jernigan retired from the State Highway Department in 1975 where she worked as secretary/receptionist for nearly 20 years. She was the third oldest of the eight children of A. A. and Fanny Kouri, and was the oldest of the three surviving sisters including Mrs. Selma Buckingham of Farmington, NM and Mrs. Rose Geha of Toledo, OH. Her family includes her son, A. Tom Jernigan and his wife, Liz and his children, Judi, Sarah, John, and Micah, her children, Audrey and Stephanie, with great-grandchildren, Dillon, Damien and Chloe, all from AZ. Included are her daughter, Marilyn R. Antinone, her husband, Robert and their children, Kouri and Max of Albuquerque. Also included are Mrs. June Kouri of Albuquerque; Betty Sue and Bob Wilson, Albuquerque; Leora Jernigan Wallace, Albuquerque; and Mrs. Barbara Jernigan of Clermont, FL. Mrs. Jernigan was active for several years in the Prime Time Singles group at St. John's Methodist Church in Albuquerque. She and her husband were active snow-mobilers and fishermen prior to his death. Mrs. Jernigan loved to travel. She loved people and was known for her good sense of humor and her teasing. When asked where her favorite place was, she replied: home, with her family around her. Thanks to the efforts of her children and grandchildren, Alyce was able to stay in her own home until the final four days of her life. JONES -- Robbie Jones, 20, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, died Saturday, October 1, 2005. He is survived by his mother, Linda; his father, Chris; his brother, Matthew; his girlfriend, Erin Drew; his grandmothers, Gloria Dunne and Martha Jones; and a large extended family. Robbie graduated valedictorian from Los Lunas High School in 2004. While at Los Lunas High School, Robbie excelled not only in academics but in swimming, jazz and marching band as well. He went on to attend New Mexico Tech to major in Mechanical Engineering with the intent of pursuing a Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering. While at New Mexico Tech, Robbie was a member of the National Honor Society, the Math Club, and a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. During the summer, Robbie worked as a head lifeguard at the Los Lunas High School pool. Robbie will be remembered as a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and boyfriend. He will forever live in our hearts. Memorial Services will be held Wednesday, October 5, 2005, at 7:00 p.m., at San Clemente Catholic Church in Los Lunas. MONTOYA -- Alfred James, 48. Isleta/San Felipe. Passed away September 24, 2005. Heart attack. His funeral was held September 25, 2005 at St. Augustine Church in Isleta Pueblo. Alfred is survived by his mother, Rosalind Montoya-Cata; paternal grandparents, Marcelina and Nick Abeyta; two brothers, Francis and Lawrence; four sisters, Regina, Ramona, Roxanne, and Theresa; many aunts, uncles, nephews, and nieces; and a large extended family including his dear friend, Nancy Collins. He was preceded in death by his father, Jose F. "Kinnie" Montoya. Alfred graduated from Valley High School Class of 1974 and UNM with a degree in civil engineering. His many projects include the pedestrian bridges on Juan Tabo. Alfred was an avid hunter. He was strong in faith. May eternal light shine upon Alfred. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Archdiocese of Santa Fe in support of Pueblo clergy.

PAOLETTI -- Bruno Paoletti, 87, died of lung cancer on Sunday, October 2, 2005. He was born in Panama, Illinois and raised in St. Louis, MO. Bruno and his family moved to Albuquerque in 1952. Bruno is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lucille; daughter, Clarice Jenkins and husband, John of Albuquerque; brother, Lee Paoletti and wife, Edythe of Sun City, AZ; sister, Inez Paoletti; granddaughter, Teri Coker and husband, Mick, all of Albuquerque; grandson, Robert Paoletti and wife, Dee of Los Lunas; great-grandchildren, Jesse Pedersen and husband, David of Albuquerque, Melissa Clarice Paoletti of Los Lunas, Clinton Coker of Cloudcroft, Sarah Vega and daughter, Izabella of Kodiak, AK, P.J. Vega and son, Jay of Mesa, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Lee Paoletti in 1959. Bruno served in the United States Army during WWII as a heavy equipment operator. He was a machinist at Sandia National Laboratories and retired in 1983, after 29 years of service. He was a member of the Italian American Club and the Bear Canyon Senior Center Fishing Club. Bruno will be greatly missed by his family and countless friends. ROBERTS -- Melvin Ray Roberts, 62, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2005 after his seven year battle against cancer. He was born in Springfield, MO on January 17, 1943 to John M. and Helen M. Roberts. He has been a resident of Albuquerque for most of his life where he graduated from Sandia High School in 1961. Melvin and his wife, Mary Ann were married on June 30, 1967 in Albuquerque. He loved being with his family and many friends that he made throughout the years and spending time at his business. His interest and activities included volunteering at Roadrunner Little League, officiating high school and youth baseball and football, being an officer and member of the Elks Lodge, and assisting at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church. He served in the Vietnam War for the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1965 at which time he transferred to the Naval Reserves. He was employed by Chevron USA for 25 years and became a business owner in 1993. Melvin will be remembered by his family and friends as a loving and devoted family man and will be cherished for his valiant spirit, love of life and selfless courage in the face of adversity. He sets an example for all. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mary Ann; children, Damian and wife, Lillian and Darin; grandchildren, Lawrence, Tanner and Spencer; parents, John and Helen Roberts; brothers, Garry and Roger; and numerous loving sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. ROTH -- M. June Roth, age 76, passed away peacefully at home, Monday, October 3, 2005, surrounded by her loving family, after a battle with cancer. She was born in Bradford, PA and relocated with her late husband, Chester Warren Roth, to New Mexico in 1971. She is survived by her children, Kelly Roth, Timothy B. Roth and wife, Elizabeth, Catherine M. Gallegos and husband, Randy, Christopher E. Roth and wife, Dee Dee; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous other family members and friends who loved and will miss her. Funeral Services will be held in the Chapel of Direct Funeral Services, 2919 4th ST. NW, on Wednesday, October 5, 2005 at 6:00 p.m. Burial will take place at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Thursday, October 6, 2005 at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society. SAWYER -- Myrtie Lew "You are my Sunshine" Myrtie Lew Sawyer, beloved mother, grandmother, and a kind-hearted and generous friend passed away unexpectedly September 30, 2005 while hiking in the canyons of Price, UT. Myrtie was born to Virginialea and Elmer Sawyer on September 28, 1942 in Blackwell, OK. She was raised in Oklahoma and then in Albuquerque, NM. She attended schools in Albuquerque and graduated from Highland High. She then attended John Brown University where she received her bachelors of Science in Biology and a minor in English. Upon graduation she landed a job in Carson City, NV. She taught high school Biology at Carson High School. She met her husband, John Horgan while teaching there her first year. They were married in March 1964. They resided in Carson City where they had two beautiful daughters, Anne Margaret and Mary Catherine. She first volunteered and then taught science and math at St. Teresa's for several years while her daughters attended there. Myrtie had a great thirst for knowledge. She obtained her Masters Degree in Education from the University of Nevada in Reno. She and John were divorced in 1980. Her second Masters brought her to Utah. With 2 children she set out on an adventure to seek a Masters in School Counseling at the U of U. She has been a counselor with the Granite School District at Valley Jr. High for the past 17 years. Myrtie has touched many lives in her line of work, mostly because she truly cared about people. She was a dedicated and hard working person who never shied away from anything. Myrtie had a quick wit and a keen mind. She was an avid reader; she loved to travel and enjoyed bowling, movies, U of U games, nature, and spending time with the Packard Family. Myrtie enjoyed collecting scrap booking paper and stamps - we were just waiting to get started. She was preceded in death by her mother, Virginialea; her father, Elmer; her daughter, Mary; and stepfather, J.D. Wallace. She is survived by her daughter, Anne and son-in-law, Rex Pico and their beautiful children, Matthew, Shanna, Jessica, Charity, Andrew, and Sarah; aunt, Olive Richardson of Albuquerque; and her adopted family, Char Packard's Family (Mike, Jake, Erin, and Phill, Adri and Corby). Her grandchildren were the light of her life. She proudly displayed their artwork in her home and office. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2005 at 12:00 Noon at the Valley View Funeral Home Chapel, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, UT. SHOATS -- Daniel Dean Biagi Shoats and Ellen Jeanne Schippers Shoats died Saturday, October 1, 2005 in an automobile accident. Daniel is survived by his children, Leah Maria Shoats, Russell Thomas Shoats, and Dominic Dean Shoats; brother, Rudolph Thomas Shoats; sisters, Soledad (Sally) Hindi and husband, Joseph, Elizabeth Shoats and husband, Roy Wade, and Marlene Shoats Weaks and husband, Dan Weaks. Ellen is survived by her parents, Norman Arnold Schippers and Beverly Alverson Schippers; children, Leah Maria Shoats, Russell Thomas Shoats and Dominic Dean Shoats; sister, Angela Ghiassi and husband, Hamid and brother, Burt Schippers and wife, Susan Rehrig. Both are survived by nephews, Joachim Biagi Marjon, Jordan and Brandon Ghiassi, Evan Weaks and Matthew Wade; nieces, Jessie Wade and Isabella Maria Weaks and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. SIMMONS -- Constance Thurston Simmons, a resident of Albuquerque for almost 50 years, died early Friday morning, September 16, 2005. She was 86 years old. A native of Elmdale, KS, Mrs. Simmons graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in dietetics. She married Charles L. Simmons, Jr., and they lived in Kentucky, California, and Colorado, before moving to Albuquerque. In 1972, faced with the untimely death of her husband and with two young daughters still at home, Mrs. Simmons attended the University of New Mexico, earning her Master of Arts in special education. She worked both as a special education teacher and social worker, mainly with special needs adults, until her retirement in 1992. She is survived by her brothers, David E. Thurston of Topeka, KS, and W. Wallace Thurston of San Antonio, TX; and her daughters, Patricia S. Zilka of Cleveland, OH, Joyce S. Rubenstein of Houston, TX, and Debra S. Villanueva and Nancy L. Simmons, both of Albuquerque. A private memorial service is planned. WILLIAMS -- Rose Grubesic Williams, born October 11, 1915, in Florence, CO, died October 1, 2005, at Laurel View Health Center. Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her husbands, John L. Grubesic in 1935 and Guy Williams in 1987. Eight siblings also preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy King and husband, James M. King of Albuquerque with whom she made her home; one granddaughter, Margie Stark of Albuquerque; two grandsons, James C. Stanley and wife, Elizabeth of Cincinnati, OH, John L. Stanley and wife Genie of Neenah, WI; four great-grandchildren, Travis Stark and Melissa Stark of Albuquerque, Jimmy Stanley and Amanda Stanley of Neenah, WI.
