MANDELL -- Joseph Mandell, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away on August 27, 2005, at age 95. Mr. Mandell was the oldest child of Julius Mandell, a native of Alsace, and Marie Benjamin of Mississippi. He served in the US Army Signal Corp during World War II and for many years was a member of Congregation Albert. Joseph was active in his father's pioneer clothing firm of Mandell-Dreyfuss & Co. (located at 3rd and Central in downtown Albuquerque) and later established stores of his own at Coronado Center and Montgomery Plaza. All those who knew Joseph admired his resilience, cheerful disposition, and unwavering devotion to friends and family. Mr. Mandell was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of more than sixty years, Sally [Blend] Mandell; and his younger sister, Maxine Michaelis of Solvang, CA. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Trinnie Mandell of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Myria Mandell; sister, Carolyn Eisen of Granada Hills, CA; nephew, Grant Eisen of Nevada City, CA; and niece, Marie [Eisen] Davis of Georgetown, CA. The Mandell family would like to express their appreciation to the attentive staff at Care Free Living at 10916 Juan Tabo Pl. NE, where Joseph has resided since March 2002. Cremation was arranged by Direct Burial Service, 2919 4th St. NW.
