JOHNSON -- Elizabeth Pettine Johnson passed away on August 17, 2005. It is with pride and love that we announce this passing of our sophisticated and elegant Aunt. Born on June 29, 1912 in Las Vegas, NM to Miguel Pettine and Virginia Berardinelli Pettine, of Isernia, Italy, she was the last surviving child of thirteen. She received her degree from Highlands University. She was an outstanding educator for over 40 years with the Las Vegas School District, completing her career as principal. She was one of the last living documented historians of Las Vegas, NM. She resided in Las Vegas, NM until 2003. She then moved to Albuquerque, where she was cared for by family members, Betty Macklin Hoover, Monica Pino, Michelle Pino, and Aaron Pino. Her loving caretakers were Connie Aragon and Josie Chavez, and her Presbyterian caretaker was Lewis Sawatsky. She is preceded in death by her precious nephew, Marvin G. Pettine; niece, Karen Pettine Martinez; and all of her siblings. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, who she spoiled and loved with all of her heart. Rosary and eulogy will be held September 1, 2005 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, Las Vegas, NM at 7:00 p.m. with a gathering to follow at El Fidel Hotel, Las Vegas, NM. Mass will be celebrated on September 2, 2005 at 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, Las Vegas, NM with Father Brasher officiating. A reception will follow at El Fidel Hotel, Las Vegas, NM. A private family internment will be at a later date at Gate of Heaven in Albuquerque. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 403 Valencia, Las Vegas, NM 87701 for heating and air conditioning funds.
