CHAVEZ -- Lydia Gabaldon Chavez, 74, was called home to her Heavenly Father, on Friday, August 5, 2005. She was born in Grants, NM on April 22, 1931. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Claude M. Chavez; three sons, Claude R. Chavez, Arthur S. Chavez and wife, Diane, and Michael A. Chavez and wife, Mary Frances; one daughter, Elizabeth A. Chavez and husband, Richard Kowalis. She is also survived by ten grandchildren; and two sisters, Inez Arroyo of Whittier, CA and Amy Arroyo of Apple Valley, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emilio A. Gabaldon and Ygnacia Zuniga Gabaldon; one brother, Andrew Gabaldon; and one son, Reuben Chavez. Lydia was a lifetime member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Her professional career began in the restaurant and hotel business. Lydia was one of the original Fred Harvey Girls. In the 1970s, she changed careers and worked in the electronics industry, in assembly and manufacturing, which included but was not limited to being instrumental in the assembly of the Apollo 13 spacecraft. In the 1980s, Lydia retired to focus on being a homemaker. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend; and was always placing other people's needs above her own. A special message from her loving husband: Lydia, I love you very much and I will miss you until the Lord God Almighty calls me Home, so we can once again be together. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Presbyterian Kaseman Hospice for the gentle and loving care they gave Lydia in her final days; with a very special thank you to Edna, Jan, Lori, DeAnna, and Cathy. Services for Lydia will be held Wednesday, August 10, 2005, at 10:30 am, at Eastern Hills Baptist Church, 3100 Morris NE, with Pastor Larry Miller officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Noonday Ministry, PO Box 25451, Albuquerque, NM, 87125. Love you forever, our wife and mother.
