WHITE -- Reverend Dr. Rue W. White, 80, a long time resident of Albuquerque, went home to his Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ on May 26, 2005. He was born August 25, 1924 in Green Forest, AR. For 29 years, he was the well known Deacon at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, assisting with Mass, marriages, baptisms and funerals. Deacon Rue also coordinated a Eucharistic Ministry program for the sick and home-bound. He worked for many years to establish the first Byzantine Rite Catholic Church in Albuquerque and was a Chevalier of the Patriarchal Order de la Sainte Croix de Jerusalem. Deacon Rue was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was elected Secretary of the New Mexico Clergy Senate. Prior to receiving a Master of Divinity and a Doctorate of Ministry in 1983, Lieutenant Commander White had retired from a distinguished career as a U.S. Naval Officer, where he was among the first American personnel to occupy Japan after WWII, and for many years he was a safety instructor and inspector of military nuclear programs. Deacon Rue was preceded in death, just one year ago by his beloved wife of 56 years, Patricia Ann; his parents, Joseph Thomas and Opal Mae; his sister, Laveta Mae; and a son, Kieran Bernard. He is survived by six children, Maureen Hamilton of Santa Fe, NM; Joseph White of Fairfax, VA; Shaun White of Englewood, CO; David White and Moira Newquist, both of Albuquerque, NM; and Melinda Garcia of Santa Fe, NM. Deacon Rue is also survived by eight grandchildren, Maxwell Hamilton; Sacha White; Erin White; Eric White; Kevin White; Laura White; Jamie Garcia; and Greg Garcia. Rosary will be recited Thursday, June 2, 2005, 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church. Byzantine Liturgy will be celebrated Friday, June 3, 2005, 10:30 a.m., at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Monsignor Douglas Raun, Celebrant. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, NM. Visitation is on Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE.
