PALMER -- John E. Palmer, 81, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away Friday March 25, 2005. He is survived by his three step-sons: Charles C. Garrett of Sugar Land, TX, Michael A. Garrett and wife, Diane of Oceanside, CA, Carl D. Garrett and wife, Evelyn of Albuquerque; niece, Donna Davis of Phoenix, AZ; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and special friends, Mary Lois Miller of Albuquerque and Marta Gifford of Sugar Land. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine; daughter, Cherrie Palmer; and grandson, Christopher Garrett. John was a 1941 graduate of Albuquerque High and served in the United States Navy from December 1942 through December 1945. He was a federal civil servant at both Sandia and Kirtland bases during the period December 1946 through his retirement in February 1979. John was a loving step-father who took on the role of raising three young boys who along with his relatives, close friends, and neighbors will miss him dearly. A viewing and visitation will be held Wednesday March 30, 2005 from 11:00 a.m. till 1:00 p.m. at Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE. Graveside Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. in the Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans-Dept. of NM, 2511 Utah NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110.
