ROBERTS -- Jimmie L. 1920-2005 Mr. Jimmie L. Roberts, 84, a resident of North Belen, died on March 14, 2005 after a long illness. Jimmie was born on a farm outside Tangier, Ok on June 28, 1920 and grew up on farms in Oklahoma. He was the tenth of twelve children. Jimmie served in the US Army during WWII with the 344th Field Artillery. He took part in the D-Day invasion and moved with the Army across the Continent to Czechoslovakia. After his discharge from the Army in 1945, Jimmie came back to the Midwest and found work on the gang of the AT&SF Railroad. He came to Belen in 1950 and was promoted to signal work on the Santa Fe. In Belen he met his beloved wife of 52 years, Hazel (Murry) Roberts. They were married in 1953 and had three children. Jimmie worked for the Santa Fe as a signalman until 1985, when he retired. He was active in his church, the United Methodist Church of Belen, serving as Sunday School Superintendent for 19 years, as well as on all of the boards of the Church. A devoted and loving father and husband, Jimmie also loved his farm north of Belen, where he raised his family. In addition to his wife, Hazel, Jimmie is survived by his three children; Keith of Bethesda, MD, Bruce of Anchorage, AK, and Kathryn (Roberts) Campbell of Albuquerque, NM; by four Roberts grandchildren, Ryan, Alyse, Ian, and Morgan; and by two sisters, Helen Owens and June Coleman, both of Florence, AL. A viewing will take place at Riverside Funeral Home of Belen from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday March 16, 2005. A Memorial Service will be held at the United Methodist Church of Belen at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday March 17, 2005. Burial will follow the service at Terrace Grove Cemetery in Belen.
