VEGA -- Alice Vega, a longtime resident of Socorro, NM, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2005, after a long battle with cancer. Alice was 55 years old and is survived by her husband of 37 years, Lupe Vega of Socorro and Taos; her son, Louis Vega of Washington, DC; and her sisters, Celina Baca of Socorro, Rita G. Steinnerd of Lemitar, Bernadette Griego-Howell of Las Cruces, and Emma Griego of Lemitar; and numerous nieces and nephews. Alice was born on February 21, 1949, in Lemitar, NM, to Tomas and Martha S. Griego and was a loving, brave, honest, passionate, supportive and beautiful wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her energy and positive outlook on life inspired all to give their best and to have faith in and for themselves. Sincere gratitude is extended to her friends, family and her community for their years of loving support and prayer. In Lieu of flowers, the family has established the Alice Vega Memorial Fund and contributions can be sent to: Alice Vega memorial Fund, c/o First State Bank, 103 E. Manzanares, Socorro, NM 87801. Services were held Monday, January 31st at San Miguel Catholic Church in Socorro and she was laid to rest at the Polvadera, NM, cemetery.
