MCKINLEY -- Valerie J. McKinley April 4, 1937 - January 29, 2005 Angel Fire resident, Valerie McKinley, died peacefully early Saturday morning January 29, 2005 after 6 months of living through cancer. Valerie and her husband, Warren, built their home in Angel Fire in 1999 and moved there full time in 2002 from Albuquerque. Valerie and Warren had been married only 7 years before moving to Angel Fire. Valerie moved to Albuquerque from New Jersey in 1958, with a short stay in Tennessee in the early 1980s. She held a Master's Degree in Elementary Education and Counseling, and retired from a fifteen-year career as a counselor in the Albuquerque Public Schools in 1999. Valerie was patient, unselfish, spiritual, and a loving friend to all who ever met her. She was an accomplished artist and loved painting. Her great passions in life were her husband, children, family, and especially her grandchildren. She had been involved in the United Church of Angel Fire, Church Bible Study, Garden Club, and the Library. Valerie is preceded in death by her first husband, Stuart Asselin of Albuquerque; and her parents, Charles Auer and Helen Reich Auer. She is survived by her husband; sister, Nancy Hrabal; brother, Larry Auer; sons, Stu Asselin, David Asselin, Timothy Asselin, Matthew McKinley; and daughter, Mary Mckinley Robinson; eleven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Two Memorial Services will be held in her honor, one at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, February 3, 2005 at Faith Lutheran Church, 10000 Spain Rd. NE, Albuquerque, NM, Pastor W. Bruce Wilder, Jr. officiating and the second at 12:00 noon, Saturday, February 5, 2005 at The United Church of Angel Fire, Angel Fire, NM with the Rev. Dr. Murray Thompson officiating.
