STEWART -- Alexander T., Reverend "And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding." -Jeremiah 3:15 Alexander Rose Taylor Stewart passed away January 15, 2005 after a brief illness. Born in Glasgow, Scotland December 31, 1922 and raised in Detroit, MI, Reverend Stewart, a 32nd degree Mason with the Scottish Rite of the Bay County Consistory, a World War Two Veteran, received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Wayne State University, Detroit, MI. After working for the Ford Motor Company he was called to the priesthood. He was ordained at age 35, after studying at the Michigan Diocesan School of Theology. While assisting at St. Johns Episcopal Church in Midland, MI he was asked by the Bishop to begin a parish in Clarkston. Establishing the Episcopal Church of The Resurrection, he enriched the spiritual and personal lives of his parishioners and served in many community organizations. During his faithful service to the Lord, Reverend Stewart and his wife, Edith adopted four children and later were blessed with one of their own. When people reflect on Reverend Stewart's ministry, many thoughts come to mind. What is most apparent, however, is that he lived out the example set by Christ when He walked the Earth. Countless people realized Christ's example through Reverend Stewart. Their success is one of his greatest achievements. Upon Reverend Stewart's retirement in 1987, he was recognized by the Michigan State Legislature House Resolution No. 379 for his service to the community and his ministry to God's people. Reverend Stewart was preceded in death by daughter, Eileen and parents, William and Margaret. He is survived by his wife, Edith; his children, Phyllis, David, Bruce, and Joan; and seven grandchildren. In life Alex enjoyed, among other things, golf, fishing, playing the piano, and the seemingly endless game of Pinochle and Cribbage. In his passing, the Lord will enjoy him. While never a resident of New Mexico, he enjoyed his visits to the Land of Enchantment and attending services at St. John's Cathedral downtown. Well done, Alex, thy faithful servant.
