BENNETT -- George Edmund Bennett, Lt. Colonel, Ret'd, US Air Force, died Thursday, December 16, 2004 following a brief illness. A proud resident of New Mexico since 1960, he was a devoted husband and loving father who will be sorely missed. As the fifth of six boys, George was born in Festus, Missouri on December 15, 1917, to John Thomas and Flora Buck Bennett. He was married to his dear wife, Ruth Poimboeuf for 58 years, who has preceded him in death. He is survived by his younger brother, Richard and wife, Helen of South Bend, Indiana; his daughter, Deborah and husband, Roger Anderson of Espanola, New Mexico and their daughter, Carmen and her husband, Drexel Douglas; his son, George and wife, Shauna Bennett of Heber, Utah and their children, Ian and Sheryl Bennett of Mesa, Arizona, Anna and Brady Wilson of Heber, Utah and Felicia Bennett; nephew, Ray and wife, Becky Bennett of San Antonio, Texas; his great-grand children Ben, Dana, Patricia, Alyssa, Mercedes and A.J; and eight nephews and nieces. Raised in Missouri and Illinois, George was a paper boy, soda jerk and pharmacist aide, but proud accomplishments included acquiring his Eagle Scout, and walking with the first set of scouts on the Lincoln Trail. After graduating from Springfield High School, George enlisted with the Army Air Corp as a pharmacist trainee, but took the opportunity to engage in flight training and excelled in navigation. He remained at Selman Field as a navigation instructor where he met his wife-to-be, Ruth. His active duty military career includes combat missions in World War II, Korea and Vietnam, and he retired in New Mexico with 30 years of military service. He remained an avid learner and reader, with love for his family, church and community. George will be interred with full military honors at 10:00 am on Monday, December 20th at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico. A Memorial Service will follow at 2:00 pm at St. John's United Methodist Church at 2626 Arizona Street, NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico. French Mortuary 1111 University Blvd. NE 843-6333
