APODACA -- Mrs. Luisita Apodaca, 90, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on December 17, 2004. Mrs. Apodaca is survived by her loving children, Luciano Apodaca, Agapito Apodaca and wife, Helen, Ignacio Apodaca, Anna Mabel and Thomas Gutierrez, Perfie Barela and husband, Felix, Rose M. Avila and husband, Eddie, Elvira M. Tidwell and husband, Gene; two sisters, Fedelina Crespin and Magdalena Quintana; 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; one uncle, Lorenzo Aragon; a sister in law, Maria Gomez; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Apodaca was preceded in death by her husband, Maximiliano Apodaca and a grandson, Carlos L. Apodaca. Mrs. Apodaca was a member of the Catholic Church. A visitation for Mrs. Apodaca will be Sunday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Gabriella Nieta. A final visitation will be Monday afternoon from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, 1400 Arenal SW with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. by Father Daniel Balizan. BENNETT -- George Edmund Bennett, Lt. Colonel, Ret'd, US Air Force, died Thursday, December 16, 2004 following a brief illness. A proud resident of New Mexico since 1960, he was a devoted husband and loving father who will be sorely missed. As the fifth of six boys, George was born in Festus, Missouri on December 15, 1917, to John Thomas and Flora Buck Bennett. He was married to his dear wife, Ruth Poimboeuf for 58 years, who has preceded him in death. He is survived by his younger brother, Richard and wife, Helen of South Bend, Indiana; his daughter, Deborah and husband, Roger Anderson of Espanola, New Mexico and their daughter, Carmen and her husband, Drexel Douglas; his son, George and wife, Shauna Bennett of Heber, Utah and their children, Ian and Sheryl Bennett of Mesa, Arizona, Anna and Brady Wilson of Heber, Utah and Felicia Bennett; nephew, Ray and wife, Becky Bennett of San Antonio, Texas; his great-grand children Ben, Dana, Patricia, Alyssa, Mercedes and A.J; and eight nephews and nieces. Raised in Missouri and Illinois, George was a paper boy, soda jerk and pharmacist aide, but proud accomplishments included acquiring his Eagle Scout, and walking with the first set of scouts on the Lincoln Trail. After graduating from Springfield High School, George enlisted with the Army Air Corp as a pharmacist trainee, but took the opportunity to engage in flight training and excelled in navigation. He remained at Selman Field as a navigation instructor where he met his wife-to-be, Ruth. His active duty military career includes combat missions in World War II, Korea and Vietnam, and he retired in New Mexico with 30 years of military service. He remained an avid learner and reader, with love for his family, church and community. George will be interred with full military honors at 10:00 am on Monday, December 20th at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico. BERNAL -- Edmundo G. Bernal was born October 15, 1928 and passed away at his home Thursday, December 16, 2004. Edmundo was preceded in death by his parents Eliu A. Bernal and Cora F. Valdez. He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Eva V. Bernal; four sons, George Henry Bernal of Los Lunas, NM, Michael Andrew Bernal of New York, NY., John Bernal and Joseph Bernal both of Albuquerque; daughter, Cora Bernal of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Hannah Sage Bernal-Cooper of Big Rapids, MI. Services will be held at St. Therese Catholic Church, 4th and Mildred NW., on Monday, December 20, 2004. The viewing will begin at 9:00 am, followed by the Rosary being recited at 10:00 am, concluded with the celebration of the funeral mass at 10:30 am. BRESETT -- Bob Bresett, 74, of Phoenix, died December 10, 2004. He was born in Santa Rosa, NM, attended UNM and served as a Sgt. in the Marine Corp. during the Korean War. He worked for Crist Machinery. He graduated from the Albuquerque Police Academy and did volunteer work for APD. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Elks, Four Hills and Albuquerque Country Clubs, the American Legion, VFW, and NRA. He and his family lived in Ranchos de Placitas, NM for 25 years. After he retired, he worked as a consultant and independent investigator. Bob was predeceased by his oldest son, Rick. He is survived by Betty, his wife of 52 years; his son and daughter-in-law, Pat and Anne Bresett; and his adopted son, Roger Polisar of Farmington, NM. Bob donated his remains to Science Care Anatomical. No services are being held at his request. The family would prefer a donation to the American Stroke Association in Bob's name. He was a wonderful husband, father and friend. His quick wit and sense of humor will be missed.

BROWN -- Charlie "Jim" Brown, Jr., 73, a resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, December 16, 2004. CHAVEZ -- JAMES R. JR. born October 12, l984, lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed from this life into eternity to be with his heavenly Father, Wednesday, December 15, 2004. CUMMINGS -- Joseph Earl Cummings, Jr., died on December 14, 2004, at Manor Care Sandia, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Joe was born in Minneapolis on May 3, 1919, the son of J.E. and Pearl Cummings. While working for Minneapolis Moline in personnel relations, he met and married Audrey Tadsen Cummings and they went on to share nearly 60 wonderful years together. In 1958, Joe, Audrey and their three children moved to Albuquerque when Joe took a personnel job with the federal government at ACF. Later Joe worked in personnel relations at First National Bank and at American Furniture, both in Albuquerque. After his retirement, Joe found great joy volunteering at SCORE and in the Albuquerque Public Schools, tutoring elementary school children in reading and math. Joe and Audrey loved camping and traveling together, and were often accompanied on their adventures by their family or their many friends. Over the years, they spent many wonderful days at their cabin in the Jemez Mountains. Joe was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Audrey, who died on October 2, 2004. He is survived by daughters, Pamela (Paul) Fairbanks of Ithaca, New York, and Lisa Cummings (Allen Andraski) of Los Alamos, New Mexico; his daughter by marriage, Betsy (Stan) Johnston of Santa Fe, NM; grandchildren,Maggie Cummings of Boulder, Colorado; Nick (Sara) Cummings of Providence, Rhode Island; Adrienne Clermont, Ithaca, New York; and Brad Johnston of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Joe was predeceased by his son, Dr. Michael J. Cummings, in 1995. He was also predeceased by his parents, his twin brother, Richard T. Cummings, and his sister, Kathleen Green. A private burial service is planned.

DICK -- Ruth Dick, passed away Thursday, December 16, 2004 at home with her family after a brief illness. She was a resident of Albuquerque since 1947. Born Anna Ruth Weaver on February 20, 1925 in Montezuma, NM, her father, a Baptist minister and teacher, taught at the Baptist College. During the Depression the family moved to Bolivar, MO and then to Kansas City. In 1947 Ruth moved to Albuquerque and was married 30 years to prominent New Mexico artist, George Dick until his death in 1978. Ruth worked in Santa Fe as secretary to the Speaker of the New Mexico House of Representatives, later as secretary to a New Mexico Supreme Court Justice, as office manager at the Modrall and Sperling law firm in Albuquerque and then in a management office for Winrock Center when it was first built. She has been a volunteer on many boards including the New Mexico Symphony, the Santa Fe Opera Guild, the Albuquerque Little Theatre and the Albuquerque Natural History Museum. Ruth is survived by her three daughters, Susan Skyler, Babetta George and Gretchen Wentworth, her two grandsons, Nicholas Wentworth and Nathaniel Eakle, and her best friend and long time companion, Dr. George Waldriff. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Monday, December 20, 2004, at 1:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. DOMINGUEZ -- Joe M. Dominguez son of Manuel and Dolores Duran-Dominguez, descendants of the founding families of Tularosa, joined the angels while surrounded by his family on December 15, 2004. Joe was one day short of his 92nd birthday. He was a lifelong resident of New Mexico, living in many towns and cities. Joe always played an active role in State and Local Government. Joe Dominguez, a veteran, received The Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Ribbon, The Asiatic Pacific Ribbon / Bronze Service Star and Bronze Arrow Head. He was a Project Work Supervisor in the Department of the Interior, English teacher and a paralegal. Joe continually shared his knowledge with everyone around him. Joe loved hunting, fishing and camping. Joe is survived by his sons, Patricio Dominguez and wife, Jean, Johnny Dominguez and wife, Sandra, Hector Dominguez and wife, Debra, Antaryami Dasa and Daniel Dominguez; daughter, Gloria Dominguez, sisters, Juanita Diaz, and Adela Pino, along with their families; 15 adoring grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by son, David Dominguez, and sister, Mercedes Rocha. FOSTER -- Maria Florencia "Florence" Crespin Foster, 72, passed away peacefully at her home in Socorro, NM on Friday, December 17, 2004. She was born June 18, 1932 to Jose Crecencio and Maria Teresita (Baca) Crespin in Escondida, NM. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Roy W. Foster; children: Jennifer Krajack and husband, Michael of Port Townsend, WA, Regina Dello Russo of Escondida, NM, and Eden Foster and wife, Laurie of East Hampton, NY; grandsons: Jordan and Turner Foster; brothers: Tom Crespin and wife, Pauline of Socorro and Andy Crespin and wife, Gloria of Albuquerque, NM; as well as much loved relatives and friends. Florence was a lifelong resident of the Escondida and Socorro area. A Rosary will be recited on Sunday, December 19, 2004 at 7:00 pm at San Miguel Catholic Church. GROSSETETE -- Margaret Elizabeth (Sue), 90, passed away just as her father did, on her own terms, by sheer will and with dignity on Monday, December 13, 2004. She was an architect by vocation, as was her mother. For her own enjoyment, she continued to draw plans and renderings until her final days. She also loved to design and decorate. Beloved mother of Alec Grossetete, Don GrossetetE, and Elizabeth Cerelle Hippeli. Beloved mother-in-law of Ginger Grossetete, Jackie Grossetete, and Julian Hippeli. GUTIERREZ -- M.R. Gutierrez, 85, a resident of Albuquerque for 54 years, died Saturday, December 18, 2004. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Tomasita "Tommie" Gutierrez; daughter, Theresa Nevada; sons, Dennis Gutierrez and wife, Patti, Andres Gutierrez all of Albuquerque, Joey Gutierrez and wife, Mary of Phoenix, AZ, Tommy Gutierrez and wife, Laurie and Dale Gutierrez and wife, Maddie, all of Los Lunas; grandchildren, Robert, Eric and wife, Andria, Lisa, Danielle and husband, Shawn, John, Matthew, Benjamin, Christopher, Nicholas, Taylor and Ariana; great-grandchildren, Natalie, Jacob, James, Gianna, Beau and Bella; sisters-in-law, Bertha Segura and Frances Gutierrez, both of Santa Rosa, NM; and many nephews and nieces. HANSFORD -- GLENN HANSFORD, 86, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at home on Tuesday, December 14, 2004. He was born on September 6, 1918 in Philadelphia, PA. He grew up in the Philadelphia area, where he was a very active member of the Episcopal Church. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was stationed in the Pacific during World War II. A memorial service will be held on December 23 at 3:30 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Deming. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, anyone who wishes to may make donations to the Mimbres Valley Hospice or the First United Methodist Church. Glenn married Betty Lowden in 1946 in East Meadow, NY. They made their home on Long Island and were both active members of the Hempstead Methodist Church. Glenn worked for Grumman Aerospace Corporation in New York, New Mexico and California, retiring in 1978. Glenn and Betty returned to New Mexico in 1982 and lived in Albuquerque until 2003 when they moved to Deming. After his retirement Glenn spent a lot of time square dancing, traveling, RV-ing, and helping care for elderly family members and fellow residents of La Vida Llena. After moving to Deming Glenn joined the First United Methodist Church. Glenn is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Hansford and their 2 daughters, Barbara Hansford and Donni Rose and her husband, Chris Favorito all of Deming and a grandson, Britton Glenn Rose of Brooklyn, N.Y. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. He will be greatly missed and remembered as someone who loved to laugh and make others laugh and as someone who was devoted to his family. KING -- Jean King a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on December 17, 2004. MAES -- Gilbert E. Maes, Sr., 83, of Albuquerque, passed away on December 16, 2004 after losing a battle to cancer. He was born on March 11, 1921, in Maes, NM to J.D. Maes, Sr. and Efren Varela Maes. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Frank A. Maes. He is survived by his daughters, Coralee Ortega and husband, George of Casa Grande, AZ; Barbara Maes, Geraldine Sena and husband, Jim; and son, Gilbert Maes, Jr., all of Santa Fe; grandchildren, Steven Kloeppel and wife, Christine of Chandler, AZ, MSgt. MINTER -- Hazel Virginia Cochran Minter, 82, passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2004 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was born August 29, 1922 in Draper (Eden, NC) and graduated as an honor student from Leaksville High School in 1939. She moved west with her husband and young son to Albuquerque, NM in 1951 and was employed by Sandia National Laboratories as an executive secretary for over 35 years. Hazel always had a bright smile and kind word for everyone who met her. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband of many years, Reuben E. Minter, formerly of Spray, NC (Eden); her parents, William Garrett, Sr. and Evelyn Vest Cochran; brother, Bill Cochran; and sister, Annie Laurie Cochran Edwards Wendisch. She is survived by her son, Dr. Wayne Minter and wife Susan of Jemez Springs, NM; grandson, Sean Minter of Albuquerque, NM; sister, Mildred Jean (Mickey) Cochran-Overby and husband Melvin of Eden, NC; sister-in-law, Barbara Cochran of Eden, NC; many nieces and nephews and their families; and many thanks to Hazel's dear friend and loving companion, Mr. "Bud" Redd of Albuquerque, NM; his dear granddaughter, Meg Ausbrook; Bud's kind family and caring, helpful aide, Sean Coffey; and of course, Hazel's caregivers at Manorcare Sandia for their loving support. ORTEGA -- Mary Santana Ortega, 72 of Santa Rosa, NM died Friday, December 17, 2004 in Santa Rosa. She was born July 20, 1932 in Sombrio, NM to the home of Abel Saiz and the former Eufelia Baca. She was reared at Sombrio and attended school in Santa Rosa. Mary married Antonio "Tony" Ortega on May 24, 1955 in Fresno, CA. They made their home in Santa Rosa where Mary worked for many years as a waitress in local restaurants including Sun & Sand, Travelers, and Medley's. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and Campos Senior Citizen's Center in Santa Rosa. Mary enjoyed attending the high school football games. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers Abel Saiz Jr., Donato Saiz, Lucario Saiz; two sisters Magdalena Saiz, and Esther Alarid. Survivors include her husband Tony Ortega of Santa Rosa; two sons Arthur Saiz and wife Barbara of Cedar Crest, NM and Vincent Saiz and wife Susan of Albuquerque, NM; two brothers Adelaido Saiz, of Los Lunas, NM; Frank Saiz and wife Fabby of Colonias, NM; three sisters; Agnes Siedel of Santa Rosa; Lola Saiz of Santa Rosa; and Ramona Esquibel of Norwalk, CA. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, a special grandson Abran Dodge she raised along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She graduated from McAlester High School, received her Bachelors Degree from Oklahoma Women's College and a Masters Degree from the University of Oklahoma. She taught English in Calvin, Lawton, McAlester, and Norman, Oklahoma. In 1944 she married Haddon C. Redding. They moved to Albuquerque in 1952 where she taught English at Highland High School until her retirement in 1975. He worked at Sandia National Laboratories. They moved to Stillwater, OK in 1996. She was predeceased by her parents, Judge and Mrs. Samuel Brown; brothers, Charles and Clyde Brown; and sister, Mina Brown Martin. She is survived by her husband, Haddon C. Born in Ignacio, CO, June 2, 1922, she was preceded in death by her parents, Blas and Selina Salazar; brothers, Flavio and Adonais, and grandson, Edward. Celia is survived by her daughters, Sally Urioste, Lydia Cordova, Margaret Rodriguez and husband Ubaldo, Martha Baca and Paul; one sister, Lucy Brown of Huntington, Utah; one brother, John Salazar and wife Flora of Ignacio, CO.; grandchildren, Brandi and husband US. Army Sgt. Steven D. Lucero (deployed), Melody, Christopher, Blas and Javier Rodriguez, Henrietta, Celeste, and Pamela; ten great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; several nephews and nieces, and many close friends. Celia was a very loving, caring person, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was a volunteer of the Foster Grandparent Program, and enjoyed working with "her children" as she liked to call them. She was a giving person of both her time and talents. Cremation has taken place. WILLIAMS -- Hazel F. Williams, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on December 13, 2004. She was born in Salem, MA, on July 7, 1907 and moved to Albuquerque when her husband, James retired from the US Navy in 1947. He served on the Battleship South Dakota in the South Pacific and received a commendation for bravery under fire. Hazel was a Nanny to children of many families in Albuquerque and will be sorely missed by her charges, her family, and friends. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, James, of 54 years; her mother and father; and seven other brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son, James and wife, Elizabeth Williams of Rio Rancho, NM; daughter, Norma Ragland of Ledyard, CT; two brothers, Ernest Little of Boxford, MA and Harry Little of Ipswitch, MA; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
