MURPHY -- Edward M. Murphy, 85, a resident of New Mexico for over 42 years, passed away unexpectedly on November 3. Ed was loved dearly by his wife, Virginia, his daughter, Diane Murphy Dunn and her husband, Charles, and many extended family members and special friends. He was preceded in death by two children, Aris Murphy and Cheri Murphy. Ed served during World War II in the United States Army Air Corps, first as a mechanic, and then as a B-17 bomber pilot in the European Theater. He flew 25 missions over Germany and was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross before training B-29 pilots in Alamogordo, NM and completing his service as a Captain. Ed worked for Mt. Bell Telephone Co., and its successors for almost 30 years. He was based in Albuquerque as Benefit Administrator for New Mexico and retired in 1979. He belonged to the American Legion Post 49.
