USSERY -- FRANCES JOANN -- Services are scheduled for 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at the First United Methodist Church for Frances Joann Ussery, 69 of Roswell, quietly passed away in her sleep to spend eternity at her side of her beloved Lord ,on September 3, 2004. Rev. Archie Echols will officiate. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery. Joann was born on October 7, 1934 in Rogers, New Mexico to Sybil and Pike Van Winkle, the seventh of fourteen children. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her brothers: Gerald and Albert Van Winkle and a sister, Joy McGaha. She married John Ussery on February 21, 1954 in. He survives her at the family home . Other survivors include her three sons: Mike and his wife, Stacey of Austin, TX.; Brad of Albuquerque and Gerald of Scottsdale, AZ. She was also very proud of her four grandsons: John Ussery of Bandera, TX and her A, B, C's:: Alex, Ben and Cal Ussery of Austin, TX; her mother in law: Willie Faye McGrew of Roswell; Van Winkle Brothers: Wayne of Carlsbad, Elvis of Portales, Fred of Ruidoso, Bill of Lubbock and Jim of Ruidoso.; her sisters: Wanda Hankins of Bogalusa,, LA; Vera Arnold of Portales, Helen Hester of Albuquerque, Voncile McGee of Elida, and Janice Turner of Lovington. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews living throughout the country and many very close members of her Women's Prayer Group: Billie Turner, Peggy Wilson, Jenny Lou Mayes, Marge Kennon, Nancy Smith: her longtime business partner, Rosetta Holmes and a host of other great friends and relatives.Joann attended school in Rogers and Portales. She and John lived in West Texas and Truth or Consequences before settling in Roswell in 1967. In Roswell, Joann worked as an Office Manager for Northwest Mutual Life Insurance for many years, prior to going into business as Co-Owner/Operator of Fran's Fashions and later the Mulberry Bush, both in downtown Roswell. She retired from those ventures in 1988 to enjoy more leisure time with her family and friends. Joann has been actively involved in the First United Methodist Church in Roswell and the Alpha Phi Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Over her years, Joann spent a great deal of time in numerous community service activities and family care giving..In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Heart Association, 1280 S. Parker Rd. Denver, Co 80231 or Cowboy Bell Scholarship Fund of First United Methodist Church, 200 North Pennsylvania Avenue, Roswell, NM 88201.Arrangements are under the direction of LaGrone Funeral Chapel and Crematory Roswell, NM
