ANDREWS -- Gay Rhodes Andrews Passed away on June 29, 2004 at the age of 58, a victim of a tragic automobile accident while on a rafting trip in Idaho. She was born in Reading, England and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Gay graduated from California State University Sacramento with a Bachelors Degree in Nursing and from New York University with a Masters Degree in Nursing Administration. Her 30-year career in the nursing field led to her position as Nurse Manager at Ashland Community Hospital. Prior to her joining the staff at Ashland Community Hospital, she held nursing administrative positions at the Radiation Oncology Center at Sutter Cancer Center in Sacramento, CA; Albert Einstein Hospital in New York City; and Sutter Memorial Hospital in Sacramento. Gay had an adventurous spirit. She loved white water rafting, shopping, hiking, shopping, exploring new places, shopping, and photography. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and brought joy to all. Gay was a charter member of Riverhawks, a member of the American Cancer Society, and a supporter of the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Gay was a resident of the Rogue Valley for 10 years. She will be remembered for her strength, humor, and compassion. She gave great energy, laughter, and support to her family, friends, and work. She will be dearly missed by many, especially her beloved husband of 19 years, Mike Andrews; loving sons, Jeffrey Coyne of Lodi, and Callan Coyne and wife Melinda of Rancho Cordova; grand children, Amanda, Gabrielle and Justin; her mother, Jennifer Peacock of Conconully; siblings, Sally Mendoza of Guinda, Ivan Rhodes and wife Jinny of Vallejo; her nieces and nephews, Kim, Daniel, Lyn, Katie and Colin; and her much loved dog Bessie. Her sister, Lyn Rhodes, and her father, David Rhodes, of Albuquerque preceded Gay in death. Gifts of remembrance may be made in Gay's name to Ashland Community Hospital Foundation, American Rivers, or the John Kerry Campaign.
