LEVERTON -- Madeline Doris Leverton, 79, a resident of Elephant Butte since 1985, died on Saturday June 26, 2004 at Sierra Vista Hospital in Truth or Consequences, NM. Madeline was born in Webb City, Oklahoma on October 19, 1924, to Marcelus and Mae Mary Thorn. During World War II, she was a photographer, and was the secretary, and bookkeeper for the family business, Leverton Engineering Company in Albuquerque, NM. She was an avid genealogist, and a member of the N.M. Genealogy Society; enjoyed playing Bingo, loved the lake and boating and New Mexico History. A homemaker, she was also a Poet - a member of the N.M. Orchid Society; an active member of Elephant Butte VFW Post #1389 Auxiliary; the American Legion Post #44; Moose Lodge #2050 and former Chamber of Commerce Manager in Ruidoso, NM. She leaves behind her son - Jack W. & wife, Carol Rachels of Holly Heights, OH; her daughters - Marcelea Sweet of TorC, NM; Nancy Seeley & husband, Don of Albuquerque, NM; Melissa Loomis & husband, Bill of Elephant Butte, NM; four grandchildren - Kathryn Bright, Autumn Seeley, John Loomis & Kevin Seeley. Mrs. Leverton was preceded in death by her husband, John George Leverton in 1996 and by parents, Marcelus and Mae Mary Thorn; and sisters, Marcella O'Connell and Erma Lea Eaves. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 in the Chapel of French Mortuary from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at the First Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Shon A. Wagner officiating. Serving as Casket Bearers are Bill Loomis, Don Seeley, Jay Loomis, Paul Loomis, Russ Alexander, Mike Seeley & Dave Abrams. Honorary Casket Bearers, Les Pardue and Bud Carr. Interment will follow in the Vista Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by French Mortuary & Cremation Services, Inc. 894-2574.
