LEWIS -- Charles Roy Lewis, 63, of Haskell, died on Saturday, June 5 2004 in Abilene, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 am on Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at First Baptist Church in Haskell with Jason Byrd officiating. Services are under the direction of Holden-McCauley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at 10:00 am on Thursday, June 10, 2004 at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Mr. Lewis was born on March 10, 1941 in Puxico, Missouri, the son of Paul and Rose Galloway Lewis. He married Joyce Lee Smith on August 27, 1994 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Charles proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1978. During this time he received the following awards, National Defense Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), Army Commendation Medal, Expert Infantry Badge, Aircraft Crewman Badge, Air Medal with OLC, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm (Unit), Missile Badge (2nd Class), Good Conduct Medal (4th Award), Army Commendation Medal with OLC. Charles was a member of the V.F.W, American Legion, 32nd Degree Mason, York Rite, Scottish Rite, Ballut Abyad Legion of Honor, Shriners, and Paint Creek Volunteer Fire Department. Charles was the Chief of the Paint Creek Volunteer Fire Department. He started to rebuild it from scratch in 1999. He loved to fish and hunt. He loved to do wood working. He was a designing a water sprinkler system for his yard. He loved the outdoors. He would help the disabled by building handicap ramps and other aids. Di spent 26 years looking for Charles and only had him for 6 years. He was Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grand Father. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Lee Smith Lewis of Haskell; son Charles R. Lewis if Antioch, IL, Daniel R. Lewis of Kenosha, WI; daughter Debora A. Whitfield (Brueggeman) of Haskell; stepdaughter Carolyn Henderson of Denver, CO, and Kathy A. Stone of Lubbock; grandchildren, Pamela, Erin, Bobby, Christopher, Misty, Jason, John, Cyle, Thomas, Caleb; great grandchildren Anastasia and Dustin. Holden-McCauley Funeral Home.
