He was born and raised on an Ohio farm during the depression. As a young man he competed on the rodeo circuit in Texas, which is how he got the nickname he carried all of his adult life. During a tour of duty in Germany, he met and married Hildegard, his wife of 50 years. After relocating to Albuquerque in 1979, he began a second career in education and retired from APS in 1992. He is survived by his wife, Hildegard; daughter, Pauline Ansell and husband, David, two grandsons, David Jr. and Chris, all of Albuquerque; daughter, Rosalinda Sickels and fiance, Mark Pawlak of Machesney Park, IL; and sister, Annie Freeman of Franklin, KY. A celebration of his life will be held at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, May 20, 2004. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE.
