ABBIN -- Thomas John Abbin, Sr., 60, a life long resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, May 16, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Lonnie Abbin of Albuquerque; daughters, Barbara Abbin and Brenda Repichowski and husband, Joe of Albuquerque; son, Tommy Abbin and wife, Dianne of Rio Rancho; five grandchildren, and a brother, Joe Abbin of Albuquerque. Tom was a graduate of St. Pius X High School, class of 1962. He was an award winning retail store manager for Piggly Wiggly and later a top salesman for the McCormick Company. "Smiling Tom" as he was often called, was a hard working, dedicated family man who inspired trust and confidence in his family, friends and co-workers. BARELA -- Mary Stella Barela, 69, a resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, May 17, 2004. She is survived by her devoted husband of 46 years, Eloy Barela of Albuquerque; son, David Barela of Dallas, TX; daughters, Bernadette Barela-Brown and husband, Richard of Denver, CO, and Diane Barela Zaiter and husband, Larry of Attleboro, MA; son, Brian Barela and wife, Robin of Forney, TX; ten grandchildren, Andrea, Patrick, Paul, Victoria, Stephanie, Nicholas, Lauren, Drew, Lance and Curtis; sister, Margaret Chavez and husband, Henry of Albuquerque; brother, Bennie Chavez and wife, Fran of Dumfries, VA; brother, Robert Chavez of Albuquerque; sister-in-law, Evelyn Chavez of Scottsdale, AZ; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Elvira Chavez; and two brothers, Paul and Candido Chavez. The Lord has called our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother home and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was a long time parishioner at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church. BASHINSKI -- Sister Mary Rosamund Bashinski, CSSF, October 14, 1914 - May 17, 2004. Sister Mary Rosamund Bashinski, a Felician Sister of Rio Rancho, passed away at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Provincial House on Monday, May 17, 2004. Named Teresa at Baptism, she was the only daughter of Lawrence and Anastasia (Kubiak) Bashinski. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Clem and Raymond. Her surviving brothers are Ted and Albert. In July of 1935 she entered the Felician Sisters convent in Chicago, IL. In 1937 she began her ministry as a Felicia Sister which took her from Illinois to Texas, Kansas, Nebraska, Alabama, California and Oklahoma in twenty-two assigned areas of these states. Sisters' primary ministry was education in kindergarten, first and second grades. A fun loving person, her classroom was always a joyful home away from home for the children she taught. Sister always had the missions at heart and worked to raise money to support those in need, no matter where they were to be found. When asigned to the provincial house in Rio Rancho, in 1997, she continued to support the work of the Felician Sisters' Mission in Mexico. A deeply prayerful, kind and jovial person, she spent her final years helping others whenever and wherever she could. Rosary services will be held at the provincial house chapel at 4210 Meadowlark Ln., SE, Rio Rancho, on Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at 7:00 PM. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 9:30 AM on Thursday, May 20, 2004 at the same location. Interment will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. CASTLE -- Albert Castle, 67, a resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, May 16, 2004. He is survived by wife of 44 years, Sarah Castle of Albuquerque; sons, Marlon Castle, of Santa Fe, NM, and Gerald Castle who is stationed in San Diego, CA; granddaughter, Cheney Perry-Hill of Albuquerque; father, Albert Castle Sr. of Gallup, NM; sisters, Betty Briggs and Carrie Cotledge of Los Angeles, CA, and Laura Myers of Needles, CA. He was preceded in death by his daughter Alba Castle in 1999 and his mother Carrie Castle. Albert retired from the postal service as Post Master in 1991 after serving in the Armed Forces. CIMPSON -- MaeDell M. Cimpson, 78, a resident of Albuquerque, died on May 17, 2004. She is survived by her daughter, B. Veronique Cimpson-Zuniga and husband, Frank of Albuquerque; two sons, Curtis Cimpson and wife, Patricia and Christopher Cimpson and wife, Joanie all of Houston, TX; four grandsons, Curtis James, Cameron Michael, Jeffrey Christopher and Jamie Christof; two aunts, Alice Shaw of North Carolina and Elvina LeBlanc of Lake Charles, LA; two sister-in-laws, Olena and Lillian Chretien both of Lake Charles, LA. EGAN -- Ann Egan, 78, a resident of Rio Rancho for the past 30 years passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2004. Ann was born August 2, 1925 the daughter of Joseph and Angela Manzi DeMaio in Brooklyn, New York. She had been an Administrative Assistant in the banking and insurance industries before she retired. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Ann lead a colorful and varied life. She loved life and had a great sense of humor! As an avid dancer and music lover, Ann belonged to the Rio Ramblers square dancing group. She was an avid sports fan who loved following the UNM Lobos. Ann was a score keeper for Little League and she also enjoyed bowling. Ann was instrumental in establishing a recycling program in Rio Rancho. To that end, she was active with KEEP RIO RANCHO BEAUTIFUL, worked at the Public Library and was a hospital volunteer for five years at what is now West Mesa Medical Center. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. Ann was preceded in death by one sister, Julie Devens. She is survived by her husband Thomas of Rio Rancho; four children, Donna Wood and husband Craig of Albuquerque; Kathleen Villarose and husband John of Orlando, FL; Mary Ellen Franklin and husband Dan of Bastrop, FL; Thomas J. ESCOBEDO -- Thomas (Tommy-Quate) Escobedo, age 62, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend was called home by our Heavenly Father and Savior, Monday, May 17, 2004 while surrounded by his loving family. Tommy was born in Gonzales, TX; and was a resident of Albuquerque. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Army. He was an active parishioner at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, devoting his faith by serving as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. Tommy retired from the University of New Mexico after 36 years as Supervisor Teaching Lab. He was the owner and operator of Escobedo Thomas and Sons Construction Co. He was a "hard worker" who really enjoyed working with his hands. He was a very loving and giving man, who loved his family very much. He was preceded in death by his parents, Abel and Petra Escobedo; his twin brother, Valentine and two other brothers, Johnny and Lupe; and one sister, Florita Escobedo. Tommy is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Dolores (Lola) Escobedo of the family home; his precious children, Veronica Mora and husband Jeff of Bernalillo, Jeff Escobedo and wife Monica of Albuquerque, Miguel Duran of Bernalillo, Tommy Rodarte and wife Charlene of Albuquerque; two grandchildren, Daniel Martinez and Joseph Escobedo. Also surviving are a son-in-law, Joseph Duran and wife Roseanna; his brothers and sisters, Mary Ann Borgues and husband Roberto, Abel Escobedo and wife Mary Louse, Alice Gomez and husband Jessie, Roland Escobedo and wife Sue, Frances Martinez, Louis Escobedo, Ernest Escobedo and wife Carmen, Sylvia Casares and husband Jack, Maggie Barrera and husband John, and Sandra Stovall all of Texas; numerous other beloved family members and friends. Tommy will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those who knew and loved him. Visitations will be held today from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary. She attended Loretto School in Las Cruces, NM and later attended Stanford University graduating cum laude. She is preceded in death by her father, Lorenzo Garcia and mother, Encarnacion Garcia; four sisters; one brother; and one nephew. She is survived by one nephew, Frank Howard, a host of cousins, and long time friends Mary and Prentis Jones. She taught high school in Magdalena, and elementary school in Socorro. GRISWOLD -- Gilbert Ripley Griswold, 92, a resident of Albuquerque, NM, died on Saturday, May 15, 2004 in La Vida Llena Health Care, in Albuquerque. Mr. Griswold is survived by daughters, Miriam Schroeder of San Diego, CA, Martha Griswold of Berkley, CA, and Annette Griswold of Greenbush, WI; four grandchildren; one great grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Laura Fast Griswold. Mr. Griswold was born in Greenport, NY on October 3, 1911, the middle son of Clyde and Grace Griswold. He moved to Raton, NM at the age of ten and had been a New Mexico Resident ever since. G.R. Griswold received two Bachelors of Science degrees from NM Tech in the fields of mining engineering and metallurgy. During the years of 1933-39, Mr. Griswold was a topographic engineer with the US Geological Survey, mapping rivers, dam sites, and reservoirs in NM, UT, ID and Montana, as an assayer. He went on to the university of Utah and earned a Master of Science. During World War II he served in the Army and was discharged a full colonel in the Army Reserve. Mr. Griswold was president of Chapman, Wood and Griswold, consulting mining engineers and geologists, with offices in Albuquerque, Africa, Australia, and Canada. He was a member of many mining organizations and a Rotarian. Services will be held Thursday, May 20, 2004 at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd N.E. LUNDGREN -- Dr. David Lundgren, 72, has gone fishing with Jesus. He was a very loving father and grandfather, who endlessly gave words of encouragement and support in times of need. He moved to Albuquerque in 1964 to pursue a career that he loved as a Microbiologist specializing in inhalation toxicology at ITRI where he worked for over 30 years. He is survived by his children Kent, Courtney, Wendy, Robyn and Mike. Grandchildren Faith, Cody, Lainie, Donovan, Mindie, David, Megan, A.J., E.J., and Jolene, and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Edrie Harrington, her husband Tom, brother Doug and his wife Laurie, and best friend Eva. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen. NUNN -- Gladys Bell Nunn, 86, of Paris, TX died Wednesday, March 24, 2004, in Heritage Care Center. Memorial services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 22, 2004, in Gene Roden's Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Gary Norman officiating. Cremation is under the direction of Gene Roden's Sons Funeral Home. She was born Gladys Jones on November 28, 1917, in Fannin County, the daughter of Sherman B. and Barbara Savage Jones. She married Raymond E. Nunn on August 15, 1980. She was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse. She was a charter member and she was one of the three Licensed Practical Nurses to start the LPN Association of New Mexico and of the State Board of Nursing. She was the founding Vice President of the LPN Association of New Mexico. She was a member of Reno Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Lonnie Jones, Melvin Jones and S.E. Jones; a sister, Maxine Jane Howdeshell; and her husband, Raymond Nunn. Survivors include her sons, Ralph C. Maroney of Spanaway, Wash. and Stanley E. Bell of Wilmer; step-son, Glenn Bell; daughter, Jo Ann Bell Combe of Littleton, Colo.; stepdaughter, Ruth Bell Stevens of Amarillo; brothers, S.B. Jones of Spring, Finis T. Jones of Magnolia and J.C. He is survived by his wife, Benerita "Bennie" Romero; sons, Cajey Romero, Jr., Joaquin Romero, Manuel Romero and Jason Rodarte; daughter, Dalena Romero-Chavez and husband, Leo; mother, Elvera "Vera" Romero; brothers Ed Romero and wife, Liz, Joe Romero and wife, Emma and Manuel Romero and wife, Benita, all of Albuquerque; sisters Barbara Abeyta and husband, Richard, of St. Louis, MO and Loretta Romero-Vigil and husband, Rudy, of Albuquerque and 3 grandchildren, Angelo, Raissa and Ariana. Cajey grew up on a ranch in Colorado, haying, sheep shearing and working all the details of the ranch. He had owned and operated Romero Automotive. Cajey later became Maintenance Director for Gardunos of Mexico. He was a Christian man who attended Calvary Chapel for the past 8 years. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and Harley rider. Cajey was a caring, kindhearted man who devoted himself to the family he loved. Services will be held Friday, May 21, 2004, 10:00 a.m., at Calvary Chapel with Pastor Bob Church officiating. SADBERRY -- Sam Sadberry, 90, a resident of Albuquerque for many years, died on May 17, 2004. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Faye Sadberry of Albuquerque; five sons, Sam Sadberry, Jr., and wife, Joy of Flagstaff, AZ, Hugh F. Sadberry and wife, Carol of Phoenix, AZ, Jack Ross Sadberry and wife, Maxine of Bluewater Lake, NM, David Joe Sadberry and wife, Pam of Phoenix, AZ and Duane Sadberry and wife, Theresa of Gallup, NM; two daughters, Janeann Findley of Phoenix, AZ and Linda Lee-Broughton and husband, Wayne of Albuquerque. Sam is also survived by 28 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson; one sister, Mable Abel of Tucson, AZ. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. SAIZ -- Mr. Eusivio T. Saiz, 78, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on May 16,2004. Mr. Saiz is the beloved husband of 52 years to Mrs. Lucille Saiz. Mr. Saiz is also survived by three daughters, Kathy Messer, Judy Gallegos and husband, Gilbert, Elizabeth Jacoby and husband, Dean; one son, Archie Saiz; a daughter in law, Robin Saiz; two sisters, Telesfora Sanchez and Nellie Gibbons; one brother, Jimmy Saiz and wife, Bruna; eleven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a special nephew, Orlando Saiz; many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Saiz was a member of the Catholic Church and a Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in World War I I. A visitation for Mr. Saiz will be Wednesday evening from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 5310 Claremont Ave. NE with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Deacon Ruben Barela. SICKELS -- Pearl Calvin "Tex" Sickels passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 16, 2004, at the age of 79, following a long and courageous battle with multiple illnesses. He was born and raised on an Ohio farm during the depression. As a young man he competed on the rodeo circuit in Texas, which is how he got the nickname he carried all of his adult life. Enlisting in the Army during the Korean War, he retired after a distinguished 28 year career, including service in Vietnam, as a Master Sergeant. During a tour of duty in Germany, he met and married Hildegard, his wife of 50 years. After relocating to Albuquerque in 1979, he began a second career in education and retired from APS in 1992. He is survived by his wife, Hildegard; daughter, Pauline Ansell and husband, David, two grandsons, David Jr. and Chris, all of Albuquerque; daughter, Rosalinda Sickels and fiance, Mark Pawlak of Machesney Park, IL; and sister, Annie Freeman of Franklin, KY. A celebration of his life will be held at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, May 20, 2004. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. VIGIL -- Robert Vigil, born December 10, 1919 in Torreon, NM. went home to be with his Heavenly Father on May 18th 2004. Robert was the beloved husband of Geneva Vigil for 64 years. Robert was preceded in death by his parents Juan (Dadito) and Eufelia (Fella) Vigil, two grandchildren Anthony and Suzanne Padilla, and three great grandchildren Ashley and Austin Lopez and Keanu Campos. Robert was the loving father of seven children; Roberta Padilla husband, Leroy Padilla, Angie Black husband, Eddie Black, Rosaline Harwell husband, Cecil Harwell, Anadina Cordero, and Santos Escarcega, Robert (Bobby) Vigil Jr. and wife, Kathy Vigil, Lee Roy Vigil and wife, Rose Vigil and Evelyn Vigil and Debbie Leyba. Robert was a loving grandfather to 16 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. Robert was the eldest of five sisters; and two brothers; and many nieces and nephews.
