CHAVEZ -- Lupe Chavez passed away on April 11, 2004 at the age of 84. Mr. Chavez served in the US Army during World War II. During the war, he fought along the front lines, was a medic, and for a time was missing in action. He was a member of the American Legion Post 49. He was a loving, caring and giving man who will be missed very dearly by his family and friends. Mr. Chavez was preceded in death by his son, Harry Chavez. He is survived by his wife, Herlinda Montoya; daughters, Ida Jean Bickerton and husband, Robert of San Francisco, CA, and Cheryl Buck and husband, Dan of Yucca Valley, CA; brother, Johnny Chavez; step-children, Proceso Montoya Jr. and Debbie, Jose Luis Montoya and wife, Barbara, Juan Montoya and wife, Patricia, Alex Montoya and Michael, and Nora Perez and husband, Benny; grandchildren, Juanita, Virginia, Idaj, Tony, Richard, Christopher, Michael and Molly; great-grandchildren, Izabel, Victoria, Patrick, Aries, Kimberly, Steven and Robert. He is also survived by 12 step-grandchildren and one step great-grandchildren. Funeral Mass will be on Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m. at Holy Family Parish. Visitation will be Thursday afternoon from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Salazar & Sons Mortuary with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. at Salazar & Sons Mortuary. Interment will be on Friday, April 16, 2004 at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. Pallbearers will be: Juan Vargas, Danny Bush, Benny Sandoval, Dan Buck, Robert Bickerton, and Proceso Montoya.
