HERRERA -- Arturo Herrera, born November 4, 1918 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to father Saulo Herrera Sr. and mother Francisquita Aranda Herrera, died March 30, 2004 in Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his wife Tomasita Olgiun Herrera; daughters, Norma Jean and Debbie and sons, Freddie and Donald. Arturo is survived by his son, Steve and wife Patricia of Santa Fe; daughter, Irene of Albuquerque; grandson/ son Fernando and wife Gloria of Albuquerque; granddaughters, Leandra and Tyrene of Albuquerque; grandson/ Godson, Stephen and wife Velma of Santa Fe; 12 grandchildren; several great grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren. Arturo was a member of the US. Army during WWII, having served in the European Theater, where he was a recipient of the Silver Star Citation for Conspicuous Gallantry. He served in the Executive Board of the Town of Atrisco Land Grant for many years. Arturo was a rancher all of his life, and had a great love for animals. The family would like to thank the Veterans Administration, namely, Becky Gonzales, for all of her help and support she has unselfishly given. Manor Care Camino Vista Nursing Home, namely, Lucy Romero, Maria De La Pena, Holly Beavers and all the staff which offered their help during our families trying time. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco Dr. SW, on Friday, April 2, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements by Direct Funeral Services, 2919 4th ST NW.
