MAESTAS -- Daisy G. Maestas, a resident of Belen, passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2004. She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters, a volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul, and the Senior Citizens. Daisy and her husband, Alvaro were the owners and proprietors of Daisy's Grocery Store for approximately 30 years on Main St. in Belen. Daisy was a wonderful seamstress and tailor and she also loved to play bingo. Daisy was also very proud to have gone on a retreat (No. 114 Crucillo) on October 23, 1975. Daisy is preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Isabel Garcia; her husband, Alvaro Maestas; her brothers, Leo H. Garcia; and Tony Lopez; her grandsons, Jeffery Kear; and Pat Garcia; and her cousin, Nestor "Tito" Garcia, who she lovingly cared for the last ten years of his life. Daisy is survived by her caregiver and brother, John A. Garcia and his wife, Heidi; her son, Kenny Maestas and his wife, Nora; her daughters, Jeannie Kear; Carol and her husband, Manuel Romero; Deborah and her companion, John Caldarera; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church beginning with a viewing on Sunday, March 28, 2004 at 5:30 p.m. followed by a rosary at 6:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11:O0 a.m. with Father Mark Schultz officiating. Pallbearers will be Patrick and Andy Garcia; Michael Kear; Mike Aragon; Daniel Trujillo; Matthew Romero; Christopher and Gabriel Montano. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren.
