BROCK -- James "Jim" R. Brock, Sr., 87, a resident of Albuquerque for 1963, died Wednesday, March 24, 2004. He is survived by his sons, James R. Brock, Jr. and wife, Melba of Atlanta, GA, Joseph R. Brock and wife, Carol and Walter D. Brock and wife, Angie, all of Douglasville, GA; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Bessie McEachern of Jacksonville, FL; special friend and neighbor, Stephen Gallegos; and numerous nephews, nieces and friends. Mr. Brock was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Frankie in 2000. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Mr. Brock was a member of the American Legion Post #14 in Albuquerque, Masonic Lodge of College Park, GA and the Elks Lodge of California. He was a retired machinist and moved back to Albuquerque in 1980. Services will be held Saturday, 3:00 p.m., at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE, with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. Entombment will follow at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum. BRYAN -- Jewell "Grandma" Bryan, 97, an Albuquerque resident since 1922, died Monday, March 22, 2004. She is survived by her sons, Robert L. Bryan and wife, Janie of Waxahachie, TX and Clarence L. "Bud" Bryan and wife, Dorothy of Albuquerque; daughters Helen L. Smith and husband, Tom of Silver City, NM and Anna M. Wood and husband, Jimmy of Albuquerque; daughter-in-law, Katy Bryan of Redding, CA; 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 19 great great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bryan was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence J. Bryan, sons, James O. Bryan and John Bryan, grandson David Bryan and great-grandson, Kernan Bryan. She had been a member of Rio Grande Baptist Church for 67 years. Grandma Bryan was a caregiver. She was long-time resident of Pajarito Neighborhood in the South Valley. GARCIA -- Darlene Monica Garcia, formally Monica Taptto, loving mother and grandmother went home to be with our Lord on Wednesday, March 24, 2004 in Lubbock, TX. Monica was born on October 11, 1951 in Richmond, CA. She was preceded in death by her brother, Peter John; and daughter, Darnell Lee Taptto. She leaves behind five loving grandchildren, Anita Victorino, Delores Victorino, Craig Victorino, Jalen Taptto and Xavier Taptto; two sisters, Joyce Charlie and Imogene (Mo) Sherman; two brothers, Joseph Edward (Guts) and Paul Juan; father, John Rey; and mother, Elizabeth Lowden; two children, Alisa Juana and Luke (Lukah) Jonah Taptto; and many relatives. Monica graduated from Albuquerque High in 1969 and attended Haskell Indian Jr. College-bus. in Lawrence, KS. She was an accomplished pottery designer and loved the arts & crafts shows. She also was employed as a secretary on various occasions and enjoyed waitressing. She became an avid sports enthusiast. Especially for Santa Fe Indian School Lady Braves Basketball, whom her granddaughter was a member of. She fought a long and courageous battle with diabetes. She will be greatly missed by all. Mass will be celebrated March 27, 2004 at St. Maria Church in McCarty, NM at 9:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Acomita Cemetery. Thanks to everyone for their help and support. HERTZ -- Margaret "Peg" Hertz, a resident of Grand Court Retirement Home in Albuquerque, passed away Monday, March 22, 2004. Peg died at her home at the age of 94. She has been a resident in Albuquerque since 1942, when she settled here with her husband, Clay Hertz. Peg's passion has always been to bring joy to others. She enjoyed her 14-year career teaching 2nd graders in Cleveland, OH. While raising her family, Peg developed the first Jewish Day Camp in Albuquerque and was instrumental in the development of the first Kindergarten in New Mexico. Her kindnesses include working with the blind, physically handicapped children, and later planning continual activities at Valencia Grand Court where she resided for 11 years. Peg Hertz's vitality has been the marvel of those who knew and loved her. She fascinated many with her knowledge in her docent position at New Mexico's Museum of Natural History. Earlier in her life, she engaged underprivileged children in varied activities while counseling at Camp Weise in Maine. It was there that she met her future husband of 47 years, Clay Hertz, who passed away November 1989. Survivors include her four children: Judy Stubbs, Jay Hertz, Ellen Davidson and Jon Hertz. She has six grandchildren and a new great-grandchild, Trevor Allen Stubbs. We will all greatly miss our beloved Mom and Gramma. JUHASZ -- Fredericka "Freddie" (Schleifer) Weber Juhasz, born on September 29, 1932 in Kansas City, Missouri to father Gail Schleifer and mother Grace Choate Schleifer, died on March 24, 2004 in Albuquerque due to complications to otherwise successful cancer treatment. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved sister Rosemary Montgomery. She is survived by her devoted husband of 21 years, John Juhasz, and her former husband of 23 years, Robert C. Weber; their children, Robin Chall and husband, Robert, Matthew Weber, Michael Weber and wife, Kathy, and Robert C. Weber Jr. She is also survived by her beloved sisters, Gail Schleifer of Albuquerque and Carol Wehrs of Houston, and by sister-in-law, Ruth Helen Simms and husband, Charles of Albuquerque. In addition, she is survived by her cherished grandchildren, Cindy Silva and husband, Ben, Charles Weber, Chris Chall and wife, Stephanie, Melissa Weber, and Paul Weber. Her precious Great Granddaughter, Jessica Chall also survives her. She left behind many nephews and nieces, Mark Montgomery of Bakersfield, Joan Montgomery of Los Angeles, Kathy Pattinos and husband, Matt, Nicky Pattinos of Houston, Tom Simms of Taos, Steve Simms and wife, Gail, John Simms and wife, Alice, and Mary Ellen Slemp and husband, Larry of Albuquerque. Freddie met her husband John at the First Presbyterian Church singles ministry, where he served as Deacon assigned to help the singles ministry. They have enjoyed a fun-filled 21 years together of traveling and enjoying the company of family and friends. She retired from Sandia National Labs after a proud 24 year career, last serving as a Management Aid II in the library and art department. She held her colleagues at Sandia in high esteem. She enjoyed working on United Way campaigns, volunteered with the Sandia Thunderbirds, and remembered good times at the Coronado Club. She highly valued skill improvement and higher education and pursued additional college education in pursuit of her certified professional secretary designation. She attended Kansas City Junior College, the University of Albuquerque, and the University of New Mexico. She was also a lifetime Beta Sigma Phi member, currently in Preceptor Beta Beta Chapter and enjoyed sorority activities and the outstanding women in her chapter. Their sisterhood helped her through the challenges encountered in the past year. Thanks for all the flowers, cards, telephone calls, hospital visits and especially your prayers. The family also wishes to thank Dr.Van Dyke, Dr. Montoya, Dr. Jensen, the Kaseman-SNF nursing staff, the Kaseman-Hospice nursing staff and the Presbyterian ICU-South nursing staff, especially Ruth, Tammy and Linda, and the Los Palomas Nursing and Rehab Center nursing staff, especially Betty Wainwright and Carolyn Manuelito. LUCERO -- Agripina Mary Lucero, 75, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 25, 2004. She is survived in this life by her devoted husband and loving companion of 57 years, Juan L. Lucero; her children, Juanita M. Madore, Rosanne M. Lucero, Cecilia G. Lucero, Carmen M. Lucero and fiance, Jeff Jaramillo, John D. Lucero and wife, Liz, Carol D. Frick; sister, Louisa Martinez; grandchildren, Jonathan R. Madore and wife, Geri of Brunswick, GA, Matthew R. Madore and wife, Rosalee, Jesse Lucero, Rachel Lucero, Jennifer Lucero, Ernest F. Sandoval, Juan Rios, Anna Rios, Ramon Rios, Chris Diemond, Jason Frick and wife, Tracy; and great-grandchildren, Matthew R. Madore II, Elijah L. MAESTAS -- Daisy G. Maestas, a resident of Belen, passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2004. She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters, a volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul, and the Senior Citizens. Daisy and her husband, Alvaro were the owners and proprietors of Daisy's Grocery Store for approximately 30 years on Main St. in Belen. Daisy was a wonderful seamstress and tailor and she also loved to play bingo. Daisy was also very proud to have gone on a retreat (No. 114 Crucillo) on October 23, 1975. Daisy is preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Isabel Garcia; her husband, Alvaro Maestas; her brothers, Leo H. Garcia; and Tony Lopez; her grandsons, Jeffery Kear; and Pat Garcia; and her cousin, Nestor "Tito" Garcia, who she lovingly cared for the last ten years of his life. Daisy is survived by her caregiver and brother, John A. Garcia and his wife, Heidi; her son, Kenny Maestas and his wife, Nora; her daughters, Jeannie Kear; Carol and her husband, Manuel Romero; Deborah and her companion, John Caldarera; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. NIDEVER -- Lorinda Ann Nidever, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, March 22, 2004. She was born May 9, 1968. The love of her life was her son, Bryan. Lori was a wonderful mother, daughter, sister, aunt and loyal friend to many. PAIZ -- Andy M. Paiz went home to our Lord on March 24, 2004. He was preceded in death by his father, Domingo Paiz; and brothers, Richard (Dickie) Lopez and Richard Christilaw. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lydia Paiz; children, Julie Brown and her husband, Gus, Mark Paiz, Richard (Ricky) Paiz and his wife, Loretta, Steven Paiz and his wife, Liz; grandchildren, Jeffery, Joshua, and Justin Brown, Philip and Richard Paiz, Timothy Andazola, Jennifer Carbajal (Lorenzo); great-grandchildren, Simmone Andazola, Branndon and Lyndon Montoya; his mother, Albita Lopez; sisters, Irene Gallegos (Louis), Rosalie Sandoval (Rudy), Oleta Gurule (Ramon); brothers, Nestor Paiz and Justo Lopez; sisters-in-law, Cirila Leal (Richard) and Kathy Trujillo; brothers-in-law, Gilbert Trujillo (Ellie) and Chris Trujillo (Irene); and numerous nieces and nephews. He had 13 Godchildren. Andy loved his family especially his grandchildren. He loved to fish, hunt, and being in the mountains. He especially loved the time he spent with his closest and dearest long-time friend, Leroy Sandoval. Andy was a retiree of the City of Albuquerque. He was Presbyterian Hospital's 50th heart transplant recipient. He was a long active parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, a member of the American Legion and the VFW, and was very active in Organ Donation Awareness Programs. Rosary will be recited Sunday, March 28th, 8:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. Services will be held on Monday, March 29, 2004, 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. PEPPIN -- George Hector Dewar Peppin, 84, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on March 22, 2004. Born in Dawson, New Mexico on October 12, 1919, he served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army in the 45th Division, 157th Infantry. George graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1946 where he had played on the Lobo football team on the 1939 and 1945 Sun Bowl teams. He taught and coached at Aztec, New Mexico High School for five years. After 30 years in the natural gas industry, he retired from North West Pipeline. He was a Mason for over 50 years with membership in Blue Lodge, Scottish Rite, York Rite, Shriners and Sojourners. He was a national officer in Sojourners and conducted programs explaining the history and significance of the U.S. flag. George is survived by his wife of 54 years, Hazel; children, Clyde Henry, Diana Lee, and George Kevin; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. ROSS -- John James Ross, Jr., 90, died on Tuesday, March 23, 2004 after a brief illness. John is survived by his wife, Paula; his son, Larry and wife, Mildred; stepson, Stephen Stronach and wife, Dorothy; stepdaughter, Tonimarie Dudley and husband, Jim; stepdaughter, Gwen Amm; sister, Shirley Tomsick; several grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents, John and Davida Ross; his first wife, Lucy; and three sisters, Mary Margaret Moore, Frances Catherine Towndrow, and Sara Murray. WRIGHT -- Jo Meda Wright, 69, longtime resident of Bosque Farms, quietly passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2004. Jo Meda was born in Wapanucka, OK on August 2, 1934. She moved to Bosque Farms in 1965 with her husband William to raise a family. Jo Meda loved sports and could always be found in the stands or on the sideline of her children's ballgames as they grew up. She carried on her love of sports faithfully following her grandchildren to their games and other events. It was on a rare occasion when she could not travel to a game from the early 1970's until now. When no one else was there to cheer the team she was always there. She loved to spend time with family and friends. Her favorite spot was in the Rocky Mountains on the San Juan river in Colorado, a place her and her husband have had for years. She loved to fish and could often be found quietly fishing by herself on the bank of a lake or in the middle of a stream. She was a devoted wife and mother and spent her life as a homemaker providing for and taking care of her family and grandchildren. She was a friend to so many and will be missed by all. She was preceded in death by her father Hollis Faulkenberry of Coalgate, OK. She is survived by her mother Doris Faulkenberry of Coalgate, OK; husband of 51 years, William Wright of Bosque Farms; son, Larry and his wife, Elizabeth of Bosque Farms; daughter, Shellie of Bosque Farms; grandchildren, Landon, Lucas and Lauriel of Bosque Farms; brother, Danny Faulkenberry and his wife, Margaret of Bella Vista, AR; and many brother and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and many friends. Services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Bosque Farms, 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 27, 2004. Friends may visit 10:00 a.m. for a pre-service viewing.
