SMITH -- Windell Preston Smith, age 78, of Mesa and Lakeside, Arizona passed suddenly from this life on February 4, 2004. Windell was a resident of Albuquerque for 35 years. He was born April 14, 1925 in Munday, TX. Windell graduated from high school in Miami, AZ, after serving three tours in the Marine Corps in the South Pacific during WWII. He married Beverly in 1949 and moved to Albuquerque where he worked in the construction industry. They were later divorced. He returned to Arizona upon retirement and married Jean in 1996. They resided in Mesa, AZ. Windell is survived by his wife, Jean; daughters, Terry S. Koehler of Colorado and her husband, David, Patty Peery of Texas; and son, Mark Smith and wife, Bonnie of AZ. He is also survived by grandsons, Michael and Sam Peery; and a great-grandson all of Texas. In addition, Windell is survived by two brothers, James Smith and Richard Smith both of Arizona. A Memorial Service was held on February 9, 2004 at Mountain View Memorial Gardens Mortuary Chapel in Mesa, Arizona. A kind and gentle man, an avid golfer and Diamondback fan, he will be greatly missed by family and friends.
