POE -- Richard Aulta Poe of Albuquerque, New Mexico died of natural causes on February 10, 2004 after a brief illness. He was born September 14, 1913 to Arletta McCurdy and Samuel Aulta Poe in Hutchinson, Kansas. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps on May 8, 1934, displaying a distinguished career that included earning the Silver Star and the Purple Heart, and was honorably discharged on November 1,1947. He then attended the University at Louisiana Tech in Ruston, LA, and worked as a physicist at Sandia National Laboratories from 1951-1967. His affiliations included Disabled American Veterans and Veterans for Peace. He married Virginia Inez Bragdon on July 3, 1941 in Bethesda, MD and was divorced in 1960. He married Mary Jane McNeil on April 9, 1966, in Juarez, Mexico, with whom he lived happily for the remainder of his life. He is survived by wife, Mary Jane Poe; son, Terry Poe; daughters, Leslie Poe, Audie McNeil, and Leilani Fisher; and six grandchildren, all of who will carry him in their hearts and memories. They continued to live in Aberdeen for a few years before moving to Mobridge, where he was employed as a juvenile probation officer and chief of police. They lived in several towns in South Dakota before he entered the U.S. Army on September 4, 1974. He served as military police. He was honorably discharged on December 18, 1984.
