OLMSTEAD -- Frank M. Olmstead was born to Eva and Francis Olmstead on March 3, 1923 in Cimmarron, New Mexico. Frank passed away January 28, 2004 in Walsenburg, Colorado at the Colorado State Veterans Retirement Home after a long struggle with thryoid cancer. He graduated from Maxwell High School in Maxwell, New Mexico in 1941. In 1942, Frank joined the US Army Air Corps where he served in England until 1944 when he was transferred to the infantry for the "Battle of the Bulge." He served in the occupation forces in Germany until his honorable discharge in 1946 from the US Army. Frank attended Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM and graduated in 1952. He received his CPA in 1953 and practiced in Las Vegas, NM. He was elected Mayor of Las Vegas, NM in 1962 and served until 1966 when he moved to Albuquerque, NM with family where he continued his CPA practicde. In 1970, Frank was elected New Mexico State Auditor and served for four years. In 1974, he returned to his CPA practice and was an active public accountant until his retirement. Frank married Audrey Kern in 1950, they had four children. He is survived by his ex-wife, Audrey Kern and children, Dr. Stephen F. Olmstead, Sandra Kaye Olmsted, Jennifer A. Olmstead and Jacqueline Lee Coombes; seven grandchildren and beloved sister, Eva DeLeon. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. At his request cremation with a Memorial Mass, 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Holy Family Catholic Church. Inurnment 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 4, 2004, Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, New Mexico.
