SEKOT -- Mercy Montano Sekot left to be with our Lord on Saturday, December 13, 2003. She passed away at her home in Blackfoot, ID. Mercy was born on January 10, 1938 in Roswell, NM to Joe R. Montano and Macedonia Rubio Montano. She attended Loretto Academy in Santa Fe and graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1956 and was the Santa Fe Fiesta princess in 1957. She married Joseph P. Sekot in 1959. They lived in Albuquerque and had three children, Steven David, Judith Yvonne and Joseph Paul Sekot. They then moved to Blackfoot, ID in 1967. She worked for American Potato and IB&T Bank in Blackfoot. In 1975, they moved to Salt Lake City, UT and in 1976 they moved to Richland, WA where she worked at the Raineer Bank. In 1979, they returned to Blackfoot, where she went to work for EG&G at the INEEL. She retired in 1995. Mercy was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church, where she served on the Parish Board, Cub Scout Den Leader, a member of the choir, and volunteer bookkeeper for the parish. She enjoyed music, playing her violin, making beautiful rosaries, writing poetry and baking. Above all else, she enjoyed spoiling her five grandchildren. The best moments of her life were having her children and grandchildren around her for festive occasions. They enjoyed her tamales and posole. She is survived by her husband, Joseph P. Sekot of Blackfoot; two sons, Steven David (Lori) of Arimo, ID, Joseph Paul (Mary Jo) Sekot Jr. of Brigham City, UT; a daughter, Yvonne (Cal) Lindsay of Blackfoot; five grandchildren, Aaron and Christopher Sekot, who are brothers, Brandi (Mike) Robbins, Alicia and Stephanie Lindsay who are sisters; three brothers, Benjamin (Adelina) and Rudy (Yvonne) both of Santa Fe, NM and Louis of Albuquerque; five sisters, Rose (Pete) Valdez and Jane (Dick) Frank both of Albuquerque, Margaret (Roy) Royball of Pojoaque, NM, Mary Jo (Benny) Sanchez of Pahrump, NV and Francais (Phillip) Carrillo of Las Vegas, NV. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Richard and Joe. A Funeral Mass was held 10:00 a.m. , Tuesday, December 16, 2003 at the St. Bernard's Catholic Church. A Rosary Service was recited Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Hawker Hill Funeral Home.
