MARTIN -- Carol Lenore Martin Klein 93, passed away with loving family present Wednesday, November 19, 2003, after a short illness. Carol, a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico since 1947 was born in Garrison, North Dakota in 1910. She and parents, Edgar and Agnes Martin resided in Hazen, North Dakota where she spent her childhood and teen years before going away to university to acquire her B.A. in education. Upon graduating, she taught school, but eventually returned to Hazen to marry Henry (Togo) Klein, who was also an educator. Carol and Togo later adopted Phillip and Nancy. Upon Togo's death in 1947, Carol, family and parents, moved to Albuquerque. She was a staff secretary at Kirtland Special Weapons Center until retirement. Carol was an avid outdoors woman. She would climb into her motorhome, without notice, wave "goodbye" and be off to hunt, fish, or caravan. Carol was a gifted musician on the piano and violin. Her artistic talents were evident in her award winning crocheted and knitted afghans. Carol was just Carol. A spark of life to friends and strangers, alike. Always a smile and an "A-OK" or "I'm doing everyone I can"! A world traveler, she always had her soft bag and passport ready for the next adventure. Europe, Africa, Egypt, Israel, Costa Rica, Alaska, were all touched by her warmth. She loved animals, wildlife, and flowers and when possible would adopt a homeless critter or fill the yard with vibrant colors. Carol was a member of The Eastern Star, Senior Paloduro Band, New Mexico 4-H and Fluffies. She is survived by her son, Phillip Klein, daughter, Nancy Walley and grandsons, Eric and Ryan Walley. Services will be held at Sunrise Funeral Options on Monday, November 24 at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Albuquerque Animal Humane Society.
