BROWN -- Maxcene Brown, 87, passed away, Tuesday, October 21, 2003. James, her husband of 49 years passed away in 1986. Maxcene was born in Mountain Home, Arkansas, July 31, 1916. She and James were married in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and moved to Albuquerque in 1949 where they owned Nob Hill Laundromat and Premier Florist. She later worked for the New Mexico Youth Diagnostic and Development Center from which she retired. She was active in Eastern Star for many years, serving as Grand Marshal, Grand Chaplain and Worthy Matron. She loved dogs and hummingbirds. Maxcene is survived by her only child, daughter Linda Gilbert, and husband Tony; granddaughter Gail Feller and husband Scott of Louisville, Kentucky; grandson Beau Gilbert and wife Amy of San Antonio, Texas; great grandchildren Meredith and Clayton Feller; sister Louise Parrish of Tulsa, Oklahoma; nephew Kerry and niece DeeAnn. Cremation has taken place. Thank you for being my mother, our grandmother, our great-grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, friend to many, for always being there, the strength you had and the strength you gave us all. Thank you to her friend Carmella, New Mexico Oncology Consultants and Kaseman-Presbyterian Hospice for all the tender care. May thoughts of her be of laughing times and bright and sunny days. May the tears of those who grieve dry before the sun. May there be happy memories that she left when her life was done. In lieu of a service please take a few minutes to remember her and the special moments. A hummingbird lights near us like a sunbeam. Its glory and beauty belong to the world. But then it flies on again, and though we wish it could have stayed forever, we are lucky to have seen it. Donations may be made in her name to the Order of Eastern Star, San Marcial Chapter 34, Benevolent Fund, 11207 Morris Pl. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112. French Mortuary 1111 University Blvd. NE 843-6333
