APODACA -- Carlos L. Apodaca, 41, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on October 8, 2003. Carlos is survived by his loving mother, Mary Lou Quezada and husband, Jose; his father, Luciano Apodaca; two sisters, Ramona Quezada and Maria Elena Quezada; two brothers, Steve Apodaca and wife, Josie, Arthur Apodaca and fiance, Frances Torres; his grandmother, Luisita Apodaca; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Carlos was a member of the Catholic Church. A visitation for Carlos will be Sunday afternoon from 4:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 5:00 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco SW by Gabriella Nieto. A final visitation will be Monday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church will Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. by a Franciscan Friar. BROWN -- Maxcene Brown, 87, passed away, Tuesday, October 21, 2003. James, her husband of 49 years passed away in 1986. Maxcene was born in Mountain Home, Arkansas, July 31, 1916. She and James were married in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and moved to Albuquerque in 1949 where they owned Nob Hill Laundromat and Premier Florist. She later worked for the New Mexico Youth Diagnostic and Development Center from which she retired. She was active in Eastern Star for many years, serving as Grand Marshal, Grand Chaplain and Worthy Matron. She loved dogs and hummingbirds. Maxcene is survived by her only child, daughter Linda Gilbert, and husband Tony; granddaughter Gail Feller and husband Scott of Louisville, Kentucky; grandson Beau Gilbert and wife Amy of San Antonio, Texas; great grandchildren Meredith and Clayton Feller; sister Louise Parrish of Tulsa, Oklahoma; nephew Kerry and niece DeeAnn. Cremation has taken place. Thank you for being my mother, our grandmother, our great-grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, friend to many, for always being there, the strength you had and the strength you gave us all. Thank you to her friend Carmella, New Mexico Oncology Consultants and Kaseman-Presbyterian Hospice for all the tender care. May thoughts of her be of laughing times and bright and sunny days. May the tears of those who grieve dry before the sun. May there be happy memories that she left when her life was done. CARTER -- Amadeo Carter life long resident of New Mexico passed away early Friday morning. He was born March 11, 1920. Amadeo worked as a delivery driver and had served his country in World War II. Amadeo is survived by his loving wife Reina Carter, his sons Joseph, Amadeo and wife Loretta, Fred, Jerry and his wife Nan, his daughters Dorella, Pauline, a brother Orlando Gurule, a sister Ida Stovall, ten grandchildren and five great- grandchildren. A Rosary will be recited, Wednesday 7 pm at Salazar and Sons Mortuary. Services will be celebrated Thursday 10:30 am at San Jose Church. Burial will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery. CHAVEZ -- Benito P. Chavez, also known as "Mr. B", a lifelong resident of Los Lunas, NM, passed away on October 23, 2003. He was a member of San Clemente Catholic Church. He was well known throughout the Los Lunas area for riding his ATV all over town. He was a wonderful and caring grandfather and a devoted friend. He loved playing his trumpet with only his hands and everybody would stop and ask him to play different tunes. Many years ago, Benito was invited to Chicago to perform on the Ed Sullivan Show. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Gina Padilla, in 1992; one grandson, Tony Padilla, in 1990; and his parents, Abelino and Eugenia Chavez. Benito is survived by one son, Richard Chavez and his family; three granddaughters, Valerie Jetter of Tijeras, NM, Gail Padilla of Denver, CO, and Irene Martinez of Los Lunas; one grandson, Michael Padilla of Albuquerque, NM; and eight great grandchildren. He is also survived by his neighbor, Pablo Jr. and Flora Hernandez of Los Lentes; and his pals at Henriettas. A viewing will be held on Monday, October 27, 2003 at 5:30 p.m. at the Romero Funeral Home Chapel and will follow with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 29, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at San Clemente Catholic Church and interment will follow at the Los Lentes Catholic Cemetery. DOLL -- Rod H. Doll, 79, a resident of Albuquerque since 1956, passed away on October 22, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley M. Doll of Albuquerque; children, Mike Doll and wife, Anna of Cumming, Georgia, Jeff Doll and wife, Peggy of Albuquerque, Gary Doll of Alameda, California and Robin Doll-Tellez and husband, Steve of Albuquerque; eight grandchildren and two great granddaughters. Rod is also survived by his sister, Geraldine Witt of Iowa and brother, Steve Doll of Arizona. He served as a Paratrooper in the United States Army, 82nd Airborne, during WWII. Rod spent the majority of his life working in traffic safety and was the owner of the New Mexico Driving School, specializing in adults with special needs. Service will be held on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at French Mortuary - Westside Chapel with Pastor Patricia Holman, officiating. Friends may visit on Sunday from 2:30 p.m. until time of service. ELROD -- Lorenn M. Elrod, 87, a resident of Albuquerque since moving here from Kansas in 1952, went to be with her Lord Friday, October 24, 2003. She is survived by her son, Warren R. Elrod and wife, Cheryl of Dallas, TX; daughters, Karen J. Pedersen and husband, Sam of Quito, Ecuador, Carol R. McCann and husband, Dan of Carrollton, TX and Linda Oswald and husband, Tim of Albuquerque; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Glennis G. Pittman and Vernice M. Leslie, both of Goodland, KS. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Warren V. Elrod; and brother, Royce Gowin. For many years, Mrs. Elrod was actively involved with Child Evangelism Fellowship. She was also a charter member of Foothills Fellowship Church and taught Sunday School until the age of 82. She helped to organize and was actively involved with the Hoffmantown Neighborhood Association. ERNST -- Lucretia "Lu" M. Ernst, 69, a resident of Albuquerque for 27 years, died Thursday, October 23, 2003. She was a loving mother and grandmother; and is survived by her two sons, Steve Ernst and wife, Sue of Superior, CO and Jeff Ernst and wife, Bonnie of Heber City, UT; one daughter, Pamela Sedmak and husband, David of Shaker Heights, OH; four grandchildren, Lauren, Logan, Alexis and Julie; and grandpets, Sammy, Roxy and Skye. She was preceded in death in 1999 by her husband of 46 years, Gerald Ernst. Lu enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, bowling, and completing New York Times crossword puzzles. FLETCHER -- William "Stewart" Fletcher 1913 - 2003 W. Stewart Fletcher, 90, of Cimarron, NM and Fullerton, CA, passed away peacefully of natural causes at home with family by his side on Thursday, October 9, 2003. He was preceded in death by his wife and true love, Mickey. He is survived by his only cousin, Bert (Claudia) Roe; stepchildren, Phil (Viola) Beilin, Dodo (Sam) Standring, Esther Murray, and Marian (Stanley) Miller, his devoted Tom and Lydia (Tami) Maldonado; ten grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; great-great-grandson, Cole; his brothers-in-law, Joseph Augustin (Vera) and Fred (Priscilla) Maldonado; and a large loving extended family. Born January 28, 1913, in Spruce, MO to Dr. James and Ester (Roe) Fletcher, he graduated from Drexel High School in 1931. After losing his father, the family moved to Santa Ana, CA where Stewart attended Santa Ana College. He received his BA in Political Science at the University of California, Berkeley and attended Bolt School of Law. A Staff Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II, Stewart served our country for three years in New Caledonia and received the Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Stewart began working for the US Post Office after Law School. He was a Postal Supervisor when he retired with 41 years of service in 1973. Many organizations and groups benefited from his leadership, altruism and hard work. He was President several times of The Santa Ana Isaac Walton League, The Santa Ana Toastmasters, Kiwanis and The Maverick Club of Cimarron and was active in both of his home communities. An avid outdoorsman, Stewart enjoyed camping, hiking with his grandchildren, his dogs, Rex or Max, deep sea fishing off California, fly fishing on the Cimarron River as well as shore, lake and stream fishing while vacationing in Bishop, Quincy and Baja California. He was known for his gardening and taking long leisurely drives. He loved having his family around, eating out, seeing movies, fine ice creams and sipping coffee with his friends. Stew will be fondly recalled relaxing with a Pepsi, munching nuts or Fritos. He never minded the often frequent family interruptions as he read late into the night in his recliner. Though Stewart was raised a Presbyterian, he was in his 60's before he became a Christian under the guidance of Reverend Joel Lamkin and joined the Cimarron Baptist Church. In the final weeks, deep faith and prayerful visits with his St. Joseph Hospice Chaplain gave him much comfort and peace. A lakeside memorial service was led in California by his nephew, The Reverend Fred Maldonado, Jr. A service with future date to be announced will be held in Cimarron. HARMS -- Susan T. Harms passed away to be with the good Lord on Friday, October 24, 2003. Susan was born on January 30, 1955 in Crestview, FL. Susan leaves behind her soul mate, her husband Bob Harms, they spent too little of her life time with each other. Susan also leaves behind two beautiful daughters and grandchildren, Samantha Edge of Santa Fe and her two children, Clinton and Dylan; and Christina Braden and her daughter Krisha. Krisha couldn't understand why anyone would be upset about Nana dying because she was going to join Jesus. Susan is also survived by her mother, Helen Thomas Helms in Crestview FL; her oldest sister Mary Lee and husband Donald; her next to oldest sister Barbara Bledsoe and husband Jerry, and their two children Jeff and Jason of Sentalabia, Mississippi; her younger brother Robert L. Thomas and wife Kathy, and their two children Robbie and Sara of Crestview FL; her youngest sister Kathleen "Kat" Peterson and husband Ronald, and their daughter Raven of Crestview FL. Susan is also survived by Bob's mother, Katie Weisch, who became like her own mother, and Bob's step-dad, Richard of Albuquerque; Bob's sister Maureen Branch and husband Paul, and their two children, Adam and Darren of Woodridge, VA. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins. Susan had a love for her husband, family and friends. She would like to thank everyone one last time for all the prayers and thoughts during her battle with cancer. The phone calls, the flowers, the cards from the groups she knew at Intel always made her day bright. To the worlds greatest doctor, Amy Tarnower, thank you to the oncology/chemo departments at Lovelace. Your teams have the biggest hearts. Also to Dana, her hospice care nurse, and to her health care givers, Christina and Bob, she wouldn't have made it as long as she did without you. LOMASNEY -- Helen M. Lomasney, 92, a resident of Albuquerque for over 50 years, passed away on October 23, 2003. Helen was a member of the Goldstar Wives Association and the Women's National Bowling Association. She was a very loving and devoted wife and mother. Her children cherish their memories of a warm and immaculate home. Helen was a very patriotic woman and was proud to raise the American flag. Survivors include one daughter, Connie Tolman; one son, John W. Lomasney Jr.; six grandchildren, John Lomasney III, Erin Lomasney, James Fargo, John Fargo, Lisa Black, and Laurel Wickwire; 7.5 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, John W. MAESTAS -- Louisa Maestas life long resident of New Mexico passed away Friday evening in her Albuquerque home. Louisa was born October 11, 1923 to Alberto Rivera and Rosa Apodaca. MARTINEZ -- Laura Martinez, 57, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, October 24, 2003 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She is preceded in death by her father, Eluid Vigil, mother, Emma Vigil and sister Judy Montoya. MONTANO -- Julia Montano, age 86, beloved mother, grandmother, and sister was called home to be with the Lord our Savior, Friday, October 24, 2003, while surrounded by her loving family. Julia was born in Placitas, NM to the late Jose and Elvira Trujillo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Montano on June, 2002. She is survived by her loving children, James Montano and wife Julia of Rio Rancho, Arthur Montano and wife Bertha of El Paso, TX, George Montano and wife Rita, Larry Montano and wife Lydia both of Bernalillo, Pat Montano and wife Viola of Albuquerque, Clyde Montano and wife Joyce of Rio Rancho, Christine Montano of Albuquerque, and Liz Abeyta and husband Robert of Albuquerque; numerous grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Miquela Rodriguez and Josephine Ringling; one brother, Jose Trujillo and wife Barbara; a very close friend of the family's, Edna Yoder; other relatives; and friends. NEWELL -- Lillian Sadie Saboe Newell, 78, beloved mother and grandmother, and resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2003. She was preceded in death by her husband, Coleman Newell, Sr.; and son, Coleman Newell, Jr. Lillian was a homemaker who raised five children. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania the daughter of Norwegian immigrants Sverre Olsen Saboe and Lilly Kristine Iversen who came to the United States in the early 1900s in search of a better life. Lillian grew up in New York City and raised her five children in East Northport. She relocated with her family to the Southwest in 1991. She loved to spend time with her family, paint, watch "her soaps," and go shopping on Sunday at Target. She lived with her daughter, Julliana, son-in-law John, and her grandchildren Ana, Anders, and Hayley. She was a kind-hearted soul who loved her family, friends, and country dearly. After suffering a stroke in the summer of 2000, one of her favorite phrases became "God Bless America." She would say it whenever something nice happened, like a good dinner, a beautiful sunset, after hearing from one of her many grandchildren, or even upon finding a great sale. She kept her sense of humor until the end and still called everyone "darling," including her doctors. She always had a "little something" in her pocketbook for each of the kids. She is survived by her daughters, Julie and Cheryle; her sons, Robert and Paul; her daughters-in-law Linda and Teresa; and sons-in-law, John and Joe. She has 12 grandchildren, Amy, Jennifer, Ana, Andy, Hayley, Cheryle, Jessica, Amanda, Joseph, Rob, Michael, and Brian; and six great-grandchildren, Ross, Ryan, Tate, Andrew, Liam, and Leif. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is in a better place with her beautiful husband and wonderful son. Services will be held in New York during the Christmas holidays so that all of our family can be together. She donated her body to the Medical School at the University of New Mexico. Her cremated remains will be interred with her husband and son at Calverton National Cemetery in Riverhead, New York.

ROBINSON -- Frieda Anna (Mayhak) passed from this earth October 21, 2003. She was born in Germany April 23, 1915, second of four children, to Karl and Alma Mayhak. The family moved to the United States when Frieda was nine years old, lived on a farm in South Dakota for one year, then settled in Chicago, IL. Frieda grew up in Chicago, married August Hansen and divorced. She remarried Gordon Robinson, who preceded her in death in 1975. She worked for Stewart-Warner making odometers for 25 years, retired in 1980. That same year, she married Peter Kutchen, who also preceded her in death in 1999. Frieda was a talented homemaker, wonderful cook and did beautiful crochet and embroidery work. She entertained family and friends with her jokes and stories and will be greatly missed. After her husband Peter's death, Frieda moved to Albuquerque to live with her son in 2000. She suffered a stroke one week after her arrival which left her a semi-invalid. As her condition progressed, she became a resident of Las Palomas Nursing Center for about six months and had recently transferred to a private homecare, Freedom Hearts, where she died peacefully in her sleep. Mrs. Robinson is survived by her son, Leslie Robinson and wife, Diane of Albuquerque; one brother, Rudy Mayhak and wife, Marge of Chicago, IL; two granddaughters, Jennifer Hayward and husband, Steve, and Jaime Robinson, all of Michigan; two step-grandsons, Drew Hon of Albuquerque, and Heath Hon and wife, Heather of Amarillo, TX; three great-granddaughters, Kayla Ferguson, Jessica and Kassidy Hayward; two great-grandsons, Cody Hayward and Tyler Hon; five nieces; four nephews; many great-nephews, great-nieces and special friends. The family extends special thanks to Jesse Mora, Barbara Hernandez and the wonderful staff at Zia Hospice for their loving kindness that meant so much to Frieda in her last days. Cremation has taken place through Direct Cremation and Burial Services. A memorial service is planned on November 8, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at Calvary Chapel of Albuquerque, 4001 Osuna NE, Pastor Danny Schuman officiating.

SAMUELSON -- Karl Samuelson, too young, died Wednesday, October 22, 2003, while riding his Harley. Karl was a wonderful, fun and free-spirited man who lived every day to the fullest with his "Sunshine" Sharon Gordon. They were filled with the joy and excitement of planning their upcoming wedding on December 20th. They loved dancing, working with students, playing pool and living life to the fullest. Karl and Sharon rode together often and enjoyed new adventures. Karl graduated with honors from Albuquerque TVI in 2002 with an Associates Degree in Metals Technology. He worked as a machinist at Sandia National Labs and will be missed by all of his friends in Projects & Measurements, Building 840. Karl was committed to students and the community, demonstrated by his active participation in SkillsUSA, Sertoma Workforce 2000 and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Karl suffered the loss of his teenage son, Karl Jr., 13 months ago and they are now reunited. Karl leaves behind his sister and brother-in-law, Jan and Lawrence Pollack; and several nieces and nephews in Omaha, NE. Karl's family also includes a huge circle of friends who loved him including Mike Gandy, Alain Archuleta, John Fitzpatrick and Susan Gordon and her children. His loss will be felt deepest by his sweetheart, Sharon, and her son, Seth Steffen. Seth filled a very special place in Karl's heart unlike any other. Seth has truly been enriched by Karl's influence and he will miss having "Krazy Karl" show up to his games on his Harley! The three lived, loved and laughed together. A final definition of his character was his donation to New Mexico Donor Services. SANDOVAL -- Tiva M. Sandoval, 86, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness, with her daughters at her bedside, at the Tucson Medical Center, Tucson, AZ on October 23, 2003. Tiva was born in Manzano, New Mexico and had lived in Albuquerque, Las Cruces, and several years in Santa Fe before moving to Tucson to be with her daughters. Tiva was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvester Martinez and Lupita R. Martinez; and five brothers, Ernesto, Mateo, Ismael, Jose and Demecio. She is survived by her two daughters, Elena Sandoval and Viola Garcia and husband, Armando; two grandchildren, Odelia (and fiancee, Charles Ball) and Gabriel Sylvester Garcia, all of Tucson, AZ. She is also survived by two sisters, Frances Martinez and Ursula Cid; one niece, Mary Cathy Martinez; one nephew, Jose Ismael Martinez; and one great-nephew, Charles Martinez, all of Albuquerque. Tiva is also survived by her Godchild, Christela Zamora Vallo of Albuquerque whom she loved very dearly; and survived by several cousins and friends who loved and will miss her. SUTTI -- Barbara Jean Sutti, age 67, died in Albuquerque on October 21, 2003 after a short illness. She was born September 18, l936 in Chowchilla, California to Joe Sutti and Virginia Tisseyre. Ms. Sutti is survived by her partner, Ruth Snyder; and a family of friends in New Mexico. Barbara is also survived by brother, Pete Sutti; sister, Lucille Olave; nephews, Louis Olave and Steve Sutti; and nieces, Linda Brown, Sandy Olave, Karen Griego and Dawn Sutti, all of California. Ms. Sutti worked for Indian Health Service in Phoenix before moving to New Mexico in the early 1960's. She taught at Southwest Indian Polytechnical Institute (SIPI) and the University of New Mexico Dental Hygiene programs. Ms. Sutti also worked in home health care in the Estancia Valley. Barbara was an avid hiker. She won numerous 5K-walk competitions between 1989 and 1992. She loved animals, birds, and nature. Each year she participated in the Audubon Society annual bird count and various projects to preserve wild lands and wildlife. Cremation has taken place. An informal Gathering for Remembrance will be held Saturday, November 1, 2003 between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. at Sunrise Funeral Options, 7601 Wyoming NE. THORNTON -- Catherine Chiles Thornton died Thursday, October 16, 2003 at the age of 89. She is survived by her sister, Helen Hill of Albuquerque; nephew, Larry Beede; grandniece, Shayne Beede; great-grandnephew, Ivan Beede Auer in Massachusetts and grandnephew, Robert Beede of Washington, DC. Catherine was a resident of Albuquerque through her high school and college years, graduating from the University of New Mexico. Following college she worked for a number of years for the WPA and the American Red Cross before marrying Julian Roy Thornton (deceased) and following him in his military career to many places throughout the world. Following his death she returned to Albuquerque, and at the time of her death was a resident of Vista del Rio. A memorial service will be held in Colorado Springs at a later date. WALKER -- Hulda Katherine Meyer (Midge) passed away on October 20, 2003, three days before her eightieth birthday. She was a native Texan and loved her state. She enjoyed her years in Arizona and Georgia, but especially New Mexico where she formed many long lasting friendships. She was a devoted and loving mother, companion, and housewife. She aided her husband of many years in all of his successes. Having suffered the indignity inflicted by several years of Alzheimer's disease, she slipped her mortal coil peacefully and with dignity surrounded by members of her family. She is survived by her husband; a son; two daughters; grandchildren; great grandchildren; and Texan cousins. Her presence will be sorely missed. WYATT -- John William Wyatt (Bill), born May 5, 1952 suddenly passed away on Monday, October 20, 2003. Bill was preceded in death by his Father, Jay Wyatt. Bill is survived by his Mother, Dorothy; and three children, Ashley, Jeff and wife Tiffany, Jay and wife Hannah; his fianc Dianah Rowland; his brother, Larry and wife Francie; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Born in Albuquerque, Bill graduated from Highland High School and attended the University of New Mexico and Texas A & M. Bill spent several years in Grand Junction, CO managing a peach orchard. Upon returning to Albuquerque Bill worked in the irrigation industry including Neumark Irrigation, Sisco Irrigation and manager for Ellen Irrigation. Bill more recently managed Ellen Equipment Rentals of Santa Fe and was recently promoted to Regional Turf director for Mile High Turf Equipment/Ellen Equipment of Denver CO. Bill spent many years coaching at Eastdale Little League. He loved baseball, college football, skiing and fly-fishing, but his real love and passion was his love of his yard, the outdoors, his love of life and most importantly the love of his children, family, friends and fianc‚. Funeral Services were held Saturday October 25, 2003, at 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel.
