DUKE -- Joseph Beecher (J.B.) Duke, 82, Building Contractor, passed away Monday, October 13, 2003, after a lengthy illness. As a native of New Mexico, he grew up on a cattle ranch. Mr. Duke served as a flight engineer on C-47's in the South Pacific during WWII on flights from New Guinea to Okinawa, Guadalcanal, Philippines and Tokyo, logging over 1000 flying hours. Prior to his military service, he married Lois A. Hagemeier of Albuquerque. He held a New Mexico Building Contractors License for 50 years. Mr. Duke's numerous construction projects consisted of custom homes, office buildings, 4-plexes, motels, service stations and church building projects in Albuquerque and other New Mexico cites. He was a longtime member and supporter of the Nazarene Church, serving on numerous boards and committees. In May 1987, the Board of Trustees of the Nazarene Indian Bible College conferred upon him the distinction of Honorary Alumnus for his years of dedicated concern and leadership on behalf of the college. Mr. Duke's love for God, his family and the church were his passion. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in the great outdoors. He was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Denny Ray Stokes; one sister, Faye Eicher; and one brother, Emmett Duke. Survivors include his wife, Lois Duke of the family home; one son, Jerald Duke and wife, Nancy, of Mansfield, TX; and two daughters, Charlotte Erhardt of Lubbock, TX and Darla Livingston and husband, Doug, of Phoenix, AZ. He is also survived by five sisters, Jessie Clark of Redmond, WA, Martha Steinkruger Burke of Amarillo, TX, Helen Jacobi of Lake Charles, LA, Bonnie Frost Hutchison of Albuquerque and Connie Lamb of Broomfield, CO; five brothers, Ross Duke of Clovis, Jack Duke of Pecos, TX, Jim Duke of Amarillo, TX, Gene Duke of Brownfield, TX and Darrell Duke of Broadview, NM; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. We love you, Pa Pa. Services will be held Friday, October 17, 2003, at 10:00 a.m., at Heights First Church of the Nazarene Church, 8401 Paseo Del Norte NE, with Rev. Dr. Bill Nielson and Rev. Dr. John Griffin officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Family will receive visitors at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, Thursday, October 16, 2003, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. French Mortuary 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE 823-9400
