Preston -- Richard Rogers Preston died September 16, 1998 after a long illness. Born February 17, 1916 in Chicago, IL, Dick is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dolores, of Albuquerque; his son, Rich; and his daughter-in-law, Janyce of Albuquerque; and his four grandchildren, Doug of Portland, OR, Ethan of Washington, DC, and Benjamin and Rebekah of Albuquerque. Raised in the Chicago area, he was a football star and student class president of New Trier High School, Winnetka, IL. He was graduated from the University of Illinois in electrical engineering. During World War II, he worked on the development and manufacture of torpedoes. After the war, Dick worked at the Electromotive Train Division of General Motors. He and his family came to New Mexico in 1953 to begin work at Sandia Labs. He retired from Sandia in 1975 and resided in the North Valley until his death. Like most engineers, he loved to construct and repair things, especially cars. Cremation has taken place and private ceremonies will be held at a time and place to be named later. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or to the charity of your choice. The family deeply appreciates the love and care of the Presbyterian Hospice Program given generously to Dick.
