Gaussoin -- Edmond Gaussoin, 77, died on June 19, 1998. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and great-uncle. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dena; his children and their spouses, Sandra and Gary Haug, Sharon Reed, Roch and Priscilla Gaussoin, Helen Gaussoin and Brett Woods, Kristofer and Terri Gaussoin. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren, Flannery and Martin Haug, Justin Gaussoin, Dena, Erin, Mallory and Michael Reed, and Maren Gaussoin Woods as well as by his widowed daughter-in-law, Theresa Flores; and his sister, Theresa Gaussoin; her daughter, Tesa; and her two children. He was preceded in death by his son, Martin and infant son, Dirk; and his brothers and sisters, Clarence, Louise, Herbert and Clara. He dedicated his adult life to children and education. He was born in Watrous and attended Las Vegas High School where he was All-State in football. He received a Bachelors in physical education and a Masters in chemistry from Highlands University and was a teacher and coach in high schools in Springer, Reserve and Estancia. After teaching in Lawndale, CA, and working as the Director of the Fresno California Teachers Association, he returned to NM as State of Director of the National Education Association-New Mexico. He was Superintendent of the Gadsden School District near Las Cruces and after retiring was director of the New Mexico School Administrators. He was a past member of numerous educational organizations. Until his death, he was a volunteer with the American Association of Retired Persons. He was an Officer of the New Mexico Educational Retirees and a board member of the Retiree Health Care Authority. He was well known at the Legislature where he had lobbied on education and elderly issues for more than 20 years. The family requests donations to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers. A Memorial Mass will be held Monday at 10:00 a.m. at San Jose Catholic Church in La Cienega. Reception to follow mass at the La Cienega Community Center.
